This does seem odd. How does the engineer scoring work?
When the total number of sappers used in your game to build the facility meets the limit of the number of times used by others（maybe 5?）, it remains to compare only the total number of kills of all sappers.
You get fewer kills than that person in this battle using the sapper.
Like, you get a medal for hitting more throws than anyone else
It seems best player in team has priority

I mean, there has to be a reason why. They score things differently maybe based upon the number of objects you build, and how many of your team uses your fortifications and buildables rather than kills or something?
Maybe you scored more with your kills than you did building things, and he built more fortifications that the team used than you did, so he got the medal despite him having a less overall score.
Only a minimum build score needs to be met to be nominated for the Corps of Engineers medal, and then the candidates compete only for kills and assists with the Corps of Engineers。
He is supposed to have built a lot, but of all his kills, it was mainly by throwing objects or soldiers of other professions
But I wasn’t killing, I was building rally points, sandbags and barbed wire around the zone, ammo boxes… etc without me team wouldn’t last long
Points scored by one single engineer is what counts. You don’t have to build anything and still get that reward.

You’d think building rallies, ammo boxes, and etc would get you “The Best Engineer” award but you just have to kill a lot of enemies and capture points.
best eng only counts with stuff build around cap points and or kills on points.
building 3425295 stuff around the map doesnt count for the badge.
All very insightful replies. I don’t run engineer for the most part so I don’t know exactly how the scoring works. I can only make educated assumptions.

I think it’s calculated based on soldier performance, so like even though you got 93 engineer score you only got 15 at most in a soldier’s life whereas that guy got 20 in one soldier life. It also might be straight up score based so even though that guy got way less engineer score because he had an engineer that went on a massive killstreak it meant he got way more score as that engineer than one of yours. Either way I do agree it’s kinda dumb you didn’t get best engineer for the match

The Best Engineer award goes to the person who got the most score with an engineer in a single life.

Its determined by score with that type of character, regardless of how that score was obtained. There are times that I have 100-200 engineer points, but I don’t get best engineer. Instead, my buddy that uses a sniper and spots for us all game gets it, because he picks up his sniper rifle with his engineer and proceeds to get high kills and assists on that character. Meanwhile only putting down ammo boxes to keep himself going.
I wish there was a separate battle hero reward for the most engineer points.
