Bailey Bridges

Add Bailey Bridge segments as an engineer fortification. These bridges could span up to 61m and hold tanks. They could help in a number of situations within the game. Bridging everything from streams and rivers to even just trenches both player made and normal terrain.

Limit a player to 6 segments total, each piece length being 10m. Once the first one is built, the other segments will snap into place at the end of the previous one. While standing in the starting position, the ghost outline will show the full length of the bridge and only let it be started if its viable to have completion. Requires 10 materials and 20 seconds/ segment. Can only be built by engineer squads.

Segments can ONLY be destroyed by DIRECT hits with large aircraft bombs or TNT. If used on top of trenches, infantry can still crawl beneath it.

Allowing player to build large indestructible structures, that can easy block any point is a brilliant idea.

Simple solution, make them require space under them to place, and don’t allow them to be placed in front of doors.

Besides, as I stated, they can be destroyed. TNT can be carried by any soldier and is not expensive.

Well I would imagine we would need a large area of open space, before finding a buildable spot that can accomodate dimensions of each segment of the bridge.

Sure, people will try and find ways to exploit it… But this can be avoided if the devlopers test their product before implementation. Only allow this feature to be used in places that are free of obstacles, and large enough to accomodate these dimensions of each structure.

its a good idea. better than the slow process of swimming across a river, while getting shot like fish in a barrel.

If this was implemented, the engineer would need to be able to equip their hammer while in the water. (unless you propose they must start building from the bank, and stay on top of the platform for each segment built?)

Which would be fine… but being able to build bridges while in the water (above the surface), would be cool too.
