In all honesty, I think it’s completely unacceptable for certain players to announce in advance that they will actively harm the game if the developers don’t meet their conditions.
It’s classic blackmail, nothing else, an absolutely disgusting practice.
When a given part of the player base takes all other players who support the game hostage. They are actively blackmailing the developers by deliberately damaging the game as a whole with negative reviews if their conditions are not met.
And they don’t give a damn about the impact on players who disagree with them. They only want push their selfish interests.
Instead of expressing their disapproval for a game by not playing it. They are actively trying to damage it, just so developers were forced to change whole game to their liking.
I don’t think that sort of thing should be tolerated in any way. Developers should take actions against such individuals. After all, it’s literally far more dangerous than toxic in-game behavior that can get your account suspended.
I am highly concerned. And I feel like being taken hostage. They’re planning to deliberately harm something that’s important to me.
Please, developers, take some actions.
Every interest is selfish.
That being said, both review bombing and ehm praise bombing are stupid because people should write a review to review the game, not because of some vendetta.
Regarding feeling like a hostage. Getting Stockholm syndrome, I guess.
I don’t think there is anything that can be done. Even if their accounts were banned (which I wouldn’t encourage) they could still make steam reviews, or even just make new enlisted accounts.
I guess we just have to hope that people on steam have a positive impression of the game, but I am not so sure that will happen unless the new player experience is improved (No BR1 vs BR3) (Silver economy increases).
That’s just your cognition bias, censorship and pre-determinated criminalization. Every review that you don’t like will be put into “review bomb and blackmail” basket without any objective truth. I don’t see any DF dev having family kidnapped and forced to fix the game as the ransom. Review bombing are not valid in this case either, devs been neglecting QoL, balancing, major bugfixes and economy for so long that it’s starting to bite their ass.
And that’s why game will have mixed if not mostly negative rating on steam and it will be their own fault not some conspiracy or a gang of stalkers that is blackmailing them lol.
I never mentioned anything about deleting any reviews.
I’m just concerned about what’s been happening on discords, forums and reddit lately.
Where people are literally threatening and blackmailing developers. And then bragging about how they’re going to deliberately damage the game.
Already happening, I’m afraid… And the listening to moronic suggestions. Now I’m playing in SU chimp land.
Though, I am getting interested in how this is going to go down with steam around. Since steam is going to be a “good” thing.
I spent almost $1000 on this game, played it more than 2 years, log on every day, have unlocked everything. But my review will definitely be negative if I got a chance/interest to comment on steam. Why? Because that is the current state of this game. I didn’t see anyone negative review bombing Elden Ring, while I do see lots of negative reviews on BF2042 and COD20, and they fully deserve it.
well there are lot of unsatisfied players cause of various issues with the game. they think that this is only time they can be actually heard cause devs have pretty bad record of communication with the playerbase.
Who decides what a negative review is and what a review bomb is? What are their biases? Are they individuals of character, or do they care only about pushing an agenda? Are there consequences for the person judging the reviews if he or she is acting in bad faith?
I want to make it clear that reviews should not be moderated or censored in any way.
That’s not a good way how to fight with review bombing and I never mentioned anything like that.
I was talking about not tolerating obvious ill intent. And asking if there any plans/way to punish it.
If i will write a review, it will be negative. The game is great, but i feel that the devs are disrespectful and unprofessional / trashy in the way they handle promises made to paying customers (stalingrad situation).
You could construe that as ill intent, depending on your perspective. Whether or not i am committed to doing it should be no factor.
Imo, you have to accept that the devs can do whatever they want inside the legal boundaries (“but we said subject to change”) but so can we (“fuck you”) and we can skip the big meta-moral outrage towards players who vote with their … well, kinda vote.
