I dont think it is possible in reality, as in SPR it is replica with huge driver port. Reality is kinda different:
Just like Germans captured lot of enemy armor, or french Panthers. But they were not operated by grunts, but by tank crews.

I think it would work if the levers werent shut. Ricochets and fragments would atleast kill the driver
