The Alecto was an experimental self-propelled gun developed by the British during World War II1234. It was initially known as the Harry Hopkins Mk 1 CS23. The Alecto was based on the chassis of the Light Tank Mk VIII 'Harry Hopkins’14. The Harry Hopkins was an improved version of the Light Tank Mk VII ‘Tetrarch’, the last British designed light tank to see combat4. The Alecto was adapted from the Harry Hopkins light tank and was made into an open-topped structure with the howitzer mounted on the front1.
