AI seriously needs improvement

First of all, I am very happy about the recent updates and improvements to the game. However Enlisted still has one glaring flaw: it’s stupid AI. No one really seems to be talking about it anymore, but the issue is still there. To me, this means the player base has gotten used to it, which doesn’t solve the problem. Yes, new weapons and improved animations are great, but the AI controlling the troops is a major part of the game. Perhaps the main problem with the AI-controlled troops is they seem to be blind. Seriously, there will be an enemy 20 feet in front of them with no obstacles in the way, and they will just stare through them. I know the problem used to be that the AI was too good, but now the pendulum has swung too far in the other direction, in my opinion. Please seriously consider making improvements to the AI.

because we thought that for 4 years in a row of each complaints months after months would have been taken in consideration.

but… it doesn’t appear to be the case.

doesn’t help that dumb AI are kinda the reason why some if not most players plays in the first place.
it’s how most of the kills are made.

and one of the selling point as the learning curve is realtively simple.

and, ( believe it or not ) you’ll find occasional forum members being against any sort of improvements to them.

because apparently would make the game hard or something.
i don’t know… i can’t get behind such statement or even entertain such idea.

but for the rest, i agree.

for me, the biggest issue that AI has,
is that they are kinda slow in taking covers, they don’t really respect formations and above all, the biggest issue in my eyes, is that these dumb chickens just stops when they are getting shoot at, like dead frozen.
making them selves an easy target.
and, they are unable to fire on the move. i don’t understand why they have to be stationary when firing.
perhaps i can understand bolt action rifles or the sniper class.
but not automatic / semi automatic troopers…

I agree with your assessment. There are much older, more obscure games with better teammate/companion AI than Enlisted. The AI should be more than just “extra lives”. The poor quality of the AI is also one of the most immersion breaking things in the game.

it is a “FEATURE”
i would ask to let me “store” those dumbasses
in a place far away from me. :joy:

there is no middle ground in bots
either they suck or they are god.

improvement means CHEATING

it is sad
but is what it is.

The point is there CAN be a middle ground, but in Enlisted for some reason there isn’t. Like I said before, plenty of older and more obscure games had better AI than Enlisted, without the AI being too overpowering or stupid.

i personally hate them
cause mine are always stupid and useless.
but the enemy ones are not.

i hate when they spot me.
so easily despite being hidden.
you shoot and instantly know where you are.
even if they dont shoot they get on my nerves.
staring at me.
instantly you have 6 bots aiming at you.
none of them are real players.

its just BULLSHIT.
that is why i think they should be removed.
and not “improved”

i have enough with the killcam breaking my stealth approach.

I understand the frustration but I think the game would be much better if the AI worked well and didn’t act stupid/godlike, than if it was removed entirely.

the problem is they do not see/aim like a human player they do not see the player they detect them
if a player can be detected they will instantly be known
a human sees something than must decide what it is
an AI detecting an enemy and knows what it is
if they were not nerfed, they would be killing players across the screen if they exposed one pixel

Agreed. I don’t think they should be improved to the point where they can do a 180 in a millisecond and beam you, but they shouldn’t just stand around and get shot at or be unable to take cover. Also bots with LMGs should be able to mount them on things.

ngl I have a really common bug where I cant even see the killcam, not to mention most of the time when you get the drop on an enemy squad, you can wipe out that squad if they take the time to analyse the killcam, there isnt really stealth but more flanking attacks which absolutely work, I mean the AI struggles to shoot where its looking, let alone where its not

in old days in Heroes and Generals
we knew how to spot them
we avoided shooting them
cause was a waste of bullets.

if i remember they were no different from what we have here.
enlisted bots are more deadly cause sometimes, rarely they become terminators.

i guess we dont have night battles due to the bots seeing in the dark.

While I bet your right about the Night battles, the AI in game has no real ability, like the only time I die to AI is when I turn the corner to an entire squad just milling around in a hallway. The only terminator like thing they can manage is throwing back grenades.

I agree that the AI should be improved more so than removed because right now the AI is worthless not even good at being extra lives for a player to use. Especially when more than half a squad of 9 die before your even in combat. And your down to 2 or the lone survivor by the time you’re actually shooting at another full squad. And sometimes the body swap for that extra life takes so long the AI that do survive are either shot or about to be shot when you take hold of them.

You can give the AI a range of accuracy/detection it would help the whole game. Of course, don’t give them the ability to shot players from across the map because then you’ll have more headaches. But if you give them a sort of proximity to their lethality then it balances them out a bit. The further away the less lethal they are. If you’re in the same house as the AI and you enter into the same room, as say 2 or 3 of them depending on your skill you may get all of them. If not than they will trade kills for kills. This is the same kind of situation that you would get if you had players in the room instead of AI.

I think this kind of a system will help even when the AI have to be full squads because one team doesn’t have enough people. I also don’t think AI should have access to vehicles this kind of combat would be hard to balance without them doing what they do now which is either be worthless or drain tickets and clutter up the field with blown up tanks

I agree 100%… the developers need to focus on improving the AI dramatically it’s very poor but from what I’ve heard the game mechanics are largely built on the poor AI hence it relies heavily on the poor AI mechanic

hence “is not a BUG is a FEATURE” theme

Oh I talk about it al the time, I’m dying for them to fix it so that way we don’t have one superman running around killing AI and the AI just sit there.
I am dying to slow the game down by making AI an actual threat.

No, you can code good AI without forcing a ‘cheating’ persay
F.E.A.R. is a great example of this
COD bots are not (they prefire you on veteran difficulty)
Shadow of Morder/War is decent if not great AI (though some bits of ‘cheating’ end up forced through the way the game is designed.

If we code the AI to have a better more comprehensive set of response (and a better detection system) we could have living breathing soldiers instead of children to babysit.

Making good AI is very hard. Giving the ai “cheats” is easy.

exactly which is very unfortunate
