Add deserter penalties

I can tell you this 100% unplayable, we should add timer as deserter penalties

If you want to see how they start to leave battle go search the replay.

I feel your pain. Desertion is the bane of this game. I’ve ranted about it a few times already. Deserters are cowards, in my humble opinion.

Before I turn this into a Mess Room rant, how exactly do you propose the devs “add deserter penalties”?

That already was a thing with last April Fools event. If you deserted a match, you couldn’t start a new one for 5 minutes.

So the feature is already working. Plus it was promised on road map.

I am pretty sure devs are just waiting for preference map/gamemode feature to be ready. And then they’ll release both at once.

Well for a start when they do add preferred map selections it would stop groups of people leaving since they get to play the 1 map they like.

More penalties for leaving battles back to back as in if you leave 2 or more games in a row you wont get any EXP/silver for future x amount of games. lasting around 8 hours

Reward the losing team their normal EXP/silver if they had won and not giving any to the deserters.

I dont think a complete block out of playing the game should be a thing it would be better to add a way to deny getting silver/exp for x amount of games they left in that session

Removing silver and experience completely is just as bad as preventing people from playing, who is going to play a match without a reward. Maybe a tiny penalty that grows in proportion of desertions to games played. Removing reward for the match you deserved also make sense. But if punishments are too harsh people are just going to stop playing.

This is a suggestion I can get behind. I’d even go further, once the proposed map/gamemode changes take effect, that if you desert from a match, you lose XP/Silver from the next match.

Now I do appreciate that network/computer issues may cause a desertion, I’ve been there myself, but that said, if it was a general rule, then the “optional” deserters would pay the price, deservedly so, and the “unfortunate” deserters would be more inclined to either fix their network issues, or fix their rigs. Harsh, sure. But it’s a complete minefield for the devs in any case. So, a blanket rule is probarbly better than none at all.

It does not have to necessarily block access to the game after the first desertion. Every once in a while for some reason nearly everyone desert a match. (Either for technical issues or irl reasons)

It’s more about countering people who do it on daily bases and systematically bypassing the matchmaking and system itself. Actually just cherry picking matches that they like for some reason, and deserting the rest.

Well, that still doesn’t stop them from entering matches just to quit them afterwards.

And if enlisted was a single player game I would agree with you but it is not. Problems joining a game that has already started should not be included. If I join a game already being lost why should I be forced to play it. If I join a match people are quiting how many people have to quit before I don’t get a penalty. If I join a match and everyone is farming kills I should be allowed to quit. If I join a match and I am one of only two friendly squads on the map can I quit. If my team is stacked with low br hear but the enemy has high gear can I quit. If the enemy has stacks of players and I have singletons I should be allowed to quit. Simply put a penalty is called for removing all reward from the next match is not. I get it deserters suck but this is a game for fun not a job.

I’ve played many matches where I’ve joined after the start, they’ve looked like it was all doom, but then we’ve pulled it around and won a great fight.

Desertion can change that fight. And it should be punished.

They used to shoot deserters back in the war. Penalties should still apply, in some form or another.

No, desertions are not the problem and we should stop punishing people for having a life outside an FPS game.

If DF got rid of stupid gamemodes like Confrontation that drags on and on for ages like Confrontation then this problem would be fixed.
Getting rid of stupid maps like reverse D Day would help too.

But seriously like Ive been playing for probably 4 years now and I cant say desertions have been that noticeable to me.

If there are people deserting its because it was a stupid confrontation or Conquest match that as I said is dragging on for like 50 minutes we’re all tired bored and frustrated and its going nowhere.

I agree that rage quitting cause you got shot once is cowardly. But it is difficult to tell who is leaving and why so I dont see why all should be punished for the crimes of a few.

I say punished because you lose 70% of your XP which means that 45 horrid minutes you had on that match was now even more of a waste of time.

Punishment for desertions is coming regardless if anyone likes it or not (I don’t support it personally). The devs have already tested this with previous events, so its coming (The devs use events to test things they will implement later).

So your argument is that we need a map/game mode selection process… Gotcha.

But no, desertions are a problem, but they exist because of the above not being implemented.

We all have lives outside the game, but why should even the casuals be punished because a bunch of people don’t like a particular map?

The people who don’t like a map/gamemode, who desert before the game’s even started, should absolutely be punished. They’re cowards, nothing more, nothing less.

Lets just add a bad sport lobby a la GTA where deserters will be matched with and against deserters in perpetuity untill their behavior improves.

Yeah, that could work…

ahahah look at him thinking there’s fear involved in fps shooter games, or honour or whatnot.

you’re a funny bloke.

And you take that way too seriously.

but since we are on this (apparently) touchy subject what is your opinion about those creating what is called here “doom stacks” to seal club the opponent team? Knowing there’s no balancing system against it. the casuals on the other side should serve as xp pinatas for the amusements of the stacks or being deemed… gasp… cowards?

Idk. when a match seems like a waste of time, I get why some ppl desert. Even if it hurts others feelings unintentionally.

IMO, ofc.

I used to love in the ARMA games (I think it was a mod) that for bad behavior of FF or anything you would get spawned in a room with no way out…and left there for a time limit listening to the sound track.

ring ring ring ring banana phone …on repeat :joy:

Not sure what you’re trying to do, but for the record:

I’ve faced quite a few “stacks”, but I’ll fight my corner regardless. Sure, my team will lose, especially if they don’t build rallies, or work well together.

But I won’t desert. I’ll fight my corner.

I had a few GPU issues before where I’ve unvoluntary deserted, but thankfully I’ve sorted that shite out, and there was one time my HOTAS was still plugged in, which meant all my soldiers kept looking at the ground, so I had to desert. But other than those examples, I’ve never deserted from a match willingly.

But carry on chap.

Same. Only times I’ve deserted is either tech issues or because someone came knocking at my door. Because if you lose, at least you still get full points, unlike the 0.7x multiplier if you desert.
