Zero needs more ammo or damage to shoot down P38

With the fantastic idea to put the P38 into BR 2 and with it into the pacific japan need a fighter to compete with it.
But the big problem of the zero is its light armarment compared to the normandy fighters that used to fight it. The 20mm can sometimes quickly dispatch the P38 but too often did I run out of 20mm ammo shooting at that dam thing.
The P38 is already faster than the zero so slowly dispaching it with 7,7mm is not always possible especialy if the P38 was already returning to base and the carrier would open up any second.

Even the 3 20mm or quad 20mm sometimes struggeled to shoot down the P38 in a timely manner so even though you got hit markers all the time. But this is even worse with just the 120 rounds of 20mm and those 7,7mm.

Even if you shoot the plane down you always need to rearm first before you can engage a new target and not be intercepted on your way.

So you could fix the damage model of the P38 or buff the ammo/ammocount the zero uses.

I know that this did not used to be a problem this much as pacific planes werent that sturdy but normandy planes certainly are that.

I know that this sounds like skill issue and get gud but the P38 is just a bit opressiv to ignore and you cant always have 1000h flight sim guy on your team in a plane to make it work despite the ammo counter.

I shoot down P38s all the time, trick is to close in, their is bullet drop on cannons, get closer!

The P38 still is faster isnt it? so if he is flying away there isnt much you can do

You are shooting from too far, hitting with your 7.7mm but not with the cannons

I have assigned different buttons for cannon and for mg because of difference in bullet drop. Perfect.

also the event zero is t3 for some stupid reason

Aim for the engines and not the tail, also, you turn about 10x better than the P38 ever could, so you can just loiter over the battlefield and intercept it as its coming in or turning around for a reload, instead of hopelessly trying to chase it down. When you are turning on the inside of it’s circle basically every single vital component it has is fully exposed and you are landing cannon shots on the flats of the airfoils. A short burst is often enough to wing break or cause massive fires, or just kill the pilot through the unarmored top of the bubble canopy

Japanese 20mm are pretty cringe on War Thunder and so they are here, and without the option for ammo belts in Enlisted I can imagine it has the default one from WT which is pretty bad, so anyway I don’t think they will change the 20mm behavior but like someone said don’t aim to the tail but to the engines usually some hits will make it turn on fire and usually they crash or bail the moment they see fire, yeah I know the ammo count sucks that’s why most zero pilots needed to have an incredible amount of experience to use the plane reliably, shoot is bursts that may help remeber you only have 4 seconds of cannon ammo
