Yet another rant about balance... Or is it?

I THINK THE GAME BALANCE IS CURRENTLY ACCEPTABLE, AND NOTHING NEEDS TO BE REMOVED OR NERFED TO THE GROUND.

Yes, exactly, I mean it.

There’s always room for improvement, but the current state is far from unplayable.

Holy cooked crap, I play all factions in Normandy and Berlin, and

I’m

Getting

S I C K

Of seeing this forum submerged with threads about “nerf X”, “remove Y”, “restrict Z”.

Be it Jumbo, FG42, Russian SMGs, or whatever dared to kill your salty butt once (insert @Josephs_Piano 's accurate meme here), it’s a constant rain of whiny mainers complaining about ONE thing the other faction has that’s marginally superior to their direct equivalent.

For (tr)uck sake, THIS IS NOT A CHESS GAME! Even though I’m not pulling in bullcrap about “war not being fair”, nowhere is said that EVERY SINGLE THING must have a direct, strictly equivalent counterpart on both sides!

(Let alone that, even if this was actually a chess game, we’d probably STILL be seeing people complaining that the game is unbalanced because white has a 50,01% win rate, or black has an advantage because dark pieces are more stealthy, or that castling is an unfair mechanic that should be removed from the game, etc.)

Ever heard of rock-paper-scissors? It’s been a perfectly viable balancing paradigm in games since, like, FOREVER. Yet, at every corner of this forum, what you see on a daily basis is basically:

  • Rock mainers whining “paper OP”
  • Paper mainers whining “nerf scissors”
  • Scissors mains whining “we need sharper blades to counter rock”.

The game USED TO have serious issues, such as bombers rush at match start, endless arty spam and such. Those were ACTUAL gameplay problems, affecting everybody. Most have been more or less dealt with, maybe the current solutions aren’t perfect, but they somehow did the job, and problems are mostly solved or at least mitigated, and previously OP mechanics are now nerfed to a point where they are not predominant anymore (or could arguably even deserve a slight buff). Even the dreaded CAS spam has just been mitigated, at the cost of nerfing bombs power sacrificing realism for the sake of improving infantry gameplay.

But if you are mad because one of the toys of the other boy looks better than yours, that’s not a gameplay problem, that’s YOUR problem, because sure enough your chest is full of other toys, some of which are better than his.

Jumbo OP? Bring in Tigers or IS-2, for all I care. I’ll still be ready to blow them up with a TNT present, or bomb them all to hell and back. If I die trying, my bad.

FG42 OP? As far as I’m concerned, as soon as one hits lvl 7 in Normandy and Berlin (unlocking semiauto rifles), he gets access to more than adequate firepower and saturation potential to face any later weapon on a reasonably even field. At that point, if the other guy kills you, he was just quicker.

I could go on, but those who want to get the point got it already, while those who don’t want to probably never will anyway.

people often confuse balancement with fun.

anyway you’re gonna get flamed for this you know?

don’t forget now the weapons can be upgraded with bronze orders who complain about the fg42 when he has a full star garand or svt has serious problems

While I agree that the game itself is somewhat balanced there’s still issues.
A few are here:
Lack of proper at stuff; this becomes PAINFULLY obvious when you have a m4a2 sitting outside the play area just shitting on your dudes defending the point, without you being able to hit it from anywhere put the front because you can’t get close (Because, you know, the area kills you if you try…). Sturmpistole is just a joke against it.

The 2nd major problem is that sometimes, you start the game at an odd time; it’s kind of silly to enter a game AFTER the first point has been captured? Like, why have the point there if it’s not even possible for me at all to defend it. As in, it’s captured before I get my first spawn?

These aren’t really balance issues in the traditional sense, but they do affect balance indirectly, and have a similar direct effect as poor balancing and therefore should be fixed quite quickly.

i’ve never understood the hatred of the fg42 yes its a one shoot weapon with 20 round, but in the end is a weapon like any other kill the soldier end of the problem.

these are problems that the developers refuse to solve have nothing to do with the asymmetrical balancing of factions
fun fact
even the Germans do gray zone camping

not even i, i have a g43 / svt38 / g41 full star and i have to tell you it does one shoot one kill from 100m away, but you know people have to complain about something, fg42 is a good weapon but nothing more

This is admittedly a situation where your options are very limited, but still there is a way to deal with the threat, in this case CAS is the way. It may be difficult, but it can be done. If pilots disregard the camping tank, that’s a matter of team coordination (or lack thereof), not the game’s fault.
(I should add that, even without markers, flashes and smoke from tank guns are fairly visible from the air.)

Fair and legit point, and this should be addressed, but that’s something that affects all, it’s not about balancing between factions.

the only time i can udestrand it is when you are attacking a building with a squad of m1903, and the guy with the fg42 absolutely destroy you (real story btw).

You called??

it would be the same with an mp38 or a breda, if you attack in cqc, with bolt action a player with an automatic weapon

Its the Grey Zone problem make the Jumbo OP-feel, it is somehow “balanced” inside playable area.

As a player already played hundreds, or perhaps over thousand? hours to this game. I can say there’s still tons of balance issues need to be fixed. We can not just ignore them.
Yeah, asymmetric balance. But player will still tend to use the most high intensity weapons. That makes all other weaker weapons no use. And this game has severe problem of lacking new players, makes this problem even more significant.
Also FG42 is OP because it’s >10 damage, very controllable recoil, more rounds. And can be use across many roles.
Let alone FG42II infantry is coming.
M1, SVT, or even AVS dosent even come close to FG42.

That makes it by far my favorite choice for my German soldiers as well.

This does NOT mean that when I play US the FG42 users I meet are an unstoppable force.

In the typical engagement, the player that kills me with an FG42 would have killed me the same even if he had a Gw43. Or, in close quarters, an SMG.

As long as I have a Garand or an SVT in my hands, I can spam just as much lead at the FG42 as he can spam back. If he shoots first, he would have killed me anyway no matter the weapon; if I shoot first yet fail to kill him before my mag runs dry, the blame is 100% on me.

Why only the Jumbo? German tanks have the same advantage grey-zoning - the front armour is damn near impenetrable at all ranges

Of course most players will miss. That’s why we need semi and full auto weapons, with >10 damage, and less recoil and spread.
If you can aim and shoot faster, and accurate. Even bolt rifle is same for you. So why bother unlocks new weapons?
The balance is, with same level of players, the performance difference of each weapons.

The best argument so far was that the counter of US is M2 which makes sense as M2 is a PDW/ SMG-hybrid and not a battle-rifle/ LMG (and that rifle soldiers etc. could equip them despite the fact that their classes shouldnt have automatic guns).
FG should be limited to paras and/or gunners and M2 should be removed from Normandy and replaced with idk Winchester Model 1894 (since the US already have more than enough British guns).

Same opinion. Only thing devs need to do is add all the features to the vehicles (ju188 can defend itself) and fix major bugs such as the damn shaking of tanks in Normandy.
