Yet Another Balance The Matchmaking Thread

Old one got locked, can we stay on topic this time? I want to hear your thoughts on this:

Imo the 2 biggest changes to help permanently balance matchmaking would be:

  1. Adding penalty that has teeth for repeated desertion, which is a common feature in other games, OR abolish Winner’s XP bias, as there is no point currently in sticking around for a “slow death” type match right now if you want to grind XP. Maybe compensate by adding boost to “join any”?
  2. Change BR queue to be more strict, similar to Chinese client. Whether that’s +/- 0, +/-1, BR 1-2/3/4-5, idk, but the current implementation is straight up bullying new players.

I will share yet again my opinion, that the number of people in the stack should be reduced to 2 or 3.
4 people in a stack definitely does not have any positive effect on the game, quite the opposite. It’s unstainable.

Otherwise, I more or less agree with what you suggest. Such changes would have a positive impact on the game.

the number of players using the same BR should be the same in both teams.

Hard disagree. Let’s replace “stack” with “group of friends” since they are the same. Nearly every multiplayer game that you can play with a friend, allows you to play with up to 4. There is no good reason for the devs to change such a fundamental aspect of the game imo, and would be harmful to the playerbase.

Why play Enlisted if you have a group of 4 friends that regularly play together if you all can’t? They will go play literally anything else since I can’t think of a popular MP game that’s been released in the last several years that didn’t support at least 4 players in a group. The issue is not “stacks” it’s the difference of stacks per team that is the problem, which comes back to matchmaking balance, not the presence of “stacks”

So say it’s a full lobby, the game would try to pair 3 BR I, 2 BR III and 5 BR V players against a similar lineup on the enemy team? Might work, but I feel like might be too many variables to add into matchmaking, seems complex

I personally don’t know any game that’s allowing you to play 4 stack in 10 vs 10 matches.
Prime example is WoT, there you are allowed to play only in 3 stack.
Plus WoT completely lack any complex MM influenced by Factions.

Disregarding the very specific “10v10” bit, every other popular team based FPS shooter, which Enlisted is, allows for groups of friends of at least 4. COD, any battle royal game, Battlebit, Rising Storm, Battlefield, you get the point. Not having such a basic feature compared to the rest of the competition would be shooting yourself in the foot.

Well, the 10 vs 10 is literally the most significant aspect of my point.
I wouldn’t care about 4 stack in 20 vs 20 match. It simply wouldn’t have such a big impact on the whole match.

But current state of 4 stacks in enlisted is just toxic. Especially since there’s quite decent chance opposing team will not get it’s own 4 stack.
This concept lacks basically any fairness.
I think people should be able to accept some compromise here.

So Enlisted should move more in the direction of PvE and solo play instead of industry-standard team based FPS? Would raising team sizes to say, 12 v 12, or 16 v 16 be enough to help address the issue?

They should just give us an option in public matches for us to wait into a lobby and let people join in and ready up like this to fix this problem

Well, I wouldn’t be against that. But it’s unrealistic solution for the moment.
It would negate the whole point of the merge. Since more players would be needed for each individual match.

I believe Enlisted should come up with some seperate seasonal competitive mode for people to play in groups.

But in classic public matches, number of players in stacks should be reduced. That’s the only reasonable and realistic solution how to reduce stack toxicity and improve fairness/balance (that comes to mind).

Yeah so we can have one side with 16 players and the other side with 3 players and 13 bots, nice.

How can that be the only reasonable and realistic way, when all of Enlisted’s competitors have made it work? Many allow you to play with 8 players in a group! I’m just saying, WoT might do it one way, but everyone else is doing just fine the other, why not here as well?
I also think the emphasis on “stacks” in this game’s community overall is a bit odd, but that might be due to Enlisted’s lack of native team communication options imo. If Enlisted was brought “up-to-standard” so to speak with the rest of the objectively successful FPS team v team games, in just bare-bones features like a chat in the lobby(seriously, why isn’t that a thing yet?) would the issue of “stacks” solve itself?

Which Enlisted’s competitors has MM that’s separating players to four different factions and there’s simply zero flexibility between that.

I can’t think of single fps game that do that. The whole playerbase is split to 4 individual groups just by default. That has extreme impact on ability of MM to put 4 stack vs 4 stack into same match.

Enlisted is completely unique in this matter. And that’s why it is not comparable to games like BF, CoD and so.

eh maybe but the different factions are comparable to different servers, they divide the player base the same way. I don’t see other games having issues there either.

The servers in enlisted are just preferencial. You can actually end up in (for example) US server even tho you have chosen only EU server.

Yet another evidence that MM in enlisted just suffer because of its unique faction feature.

You say that like the Pre Merge Enlisted wasn’t worse

what about having “global chat”…

also it shouldn’t be “stack” it should be “platoon”;

should have a voice chat channel that is team wide, (with individuals on the team being mutable of course)… with some kind of “local” chat…

battlebit had this at one point, was nice, frankly I think their marketing to the “bf4” crowd probably backfired lol

Kidding me? To find a simple good game i nedd join and left at least 6 games. I will not play for free to the others get more exp. :slight_smile:
