Xbox Enlisted Account, PC Access and Concerns About a Possible War Thunder Merge

Hello everyone,

I’m writing this as a serious concern from a long-term player who has invested a significant amount of time and money into the Gaijin ecosystem. I hope both fellow players and community managers will take the time to read this.

I play Enlisted through my Xbox account and War Thunder through my PC account. Over the years, I have spent a substantial amount of money on Enlisted, including purchasing almost all premium squads, additional squad slots, and other paid content. More importantly, I have invested months and years of my free time into the game.

At this point, I no longer actively use an Xbox console. However, I am unable to transfer my Enlisted account to PC in a permanent and independent way. In the past, when I tried to move from Xbox to PC, the response I received was essentially that all of my progress and purchases would remain locked to Xbox, and that if I wanted to play properly on PC, I would need to buy everything again. For a long-term paying customer, this is extremely discouraging.

Thanks to Microsoft’s Xbox Play Anywhere feature, I was later able to continue playing Enlisted on PC while still using my Xbox account. To be clear, without Play Anywhere, I would have completely quit Enlisted. However, this is still not a true PC account solution. I remain tied to the Xbox ecosystem and forced to use the Xbox Store, despite no longer using Xbox hardware.

Recently, with the discussion around infantry gameplay coming to War Thunder, many players are questioning the future of Enlisted. Whether Enlisted will eventually be discontinued or merged into War Thunder is openly discussed within the community. This creates a serious concern for players like me.

If such a merge or integration ever happens, what will happen to players who have Enlisted accounts on Xbox and War Thunder accounts on PC? Will our Enlisted progress and purchases be transferable or merged, or will we once again be told that platform differences make this impossible and that we must repurchase everything?

To summarize, I am asking and looking for for clear and official answers to the following:

  1. Is there any plan or possibility to allow Xbox Enlisted accounts to be transferred to PC with purchases and progress fully preserved?
  2. In the event of a future Enlisted and War Thunder merge or integration, will Xbox-based Enlisted accounts be able to merge with PC-based War Thunder accounts?

At the end of the day, we all play games for enjoyment. But when players invest thousands of dollars and a significant portion of their time, this stops being a casual expense and becomes a serious commitment. The possibility that this commitment could be rendered worthless in the future makes it very hard to justify spending any more money.

I am asking for transparency, clear communication, and respect for long-term players who have supported these games for years.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Download microsoft store… get enlisted through there and try

Try what? As I mentioned above, I can already play Enlisted on PC over X Box App. This is the Microsoft Play Anywhere functionality! The problem is I have to purchase anything and everything from X Box store on an inflated price. But the main topic in here is if Enlisted and War Thunder merges one day, what will happen to players like me because I am playing Enlisted on X Box account and War Thunder on PC account.

This isn’t going to happen… they are two different games with different premises

For me, i fear exactly the same, but the situation is swapped. I have a PC account for enlisted and a Xbox account for war thunder. I play both games on PC. I spent a lot of money and time into both games until now, so i hope if there will ever be a merge, that i can transfer my stuff to the same account…

Losing all this progress and money is going to be my final hour of gaming, EVER.

In my view, the very idea of “integrating Enlisted with War Thunder” is unrealistic from the outset. This is because the fundamental value of items in the two games is inherently different.

For example, the F-80 is a high-priced $50 premium aircraft positioned at the highest BR in Enlisted, whereas in War Thunder it is nothing more than a standard aircraft located in the middle of the tech tree. Even before that, the historical periods covered by the two games are fundamentally different. War Thunder broadly spans eras from pre–World War II to the modern day, while Enlisted is limited exclusively to World War II. Under these circumstances, the nature of what constitutes a “top-tier” vehicle in each game is completely different. Attempting to integrate the two games in a situation where “top-BR equipment that requires enormous effort and playtime to unlock in Enlisted” is merely “mid-tree, easily obtainable equipment in War Thunder” would be extremely difficult.

Furthermore, the difference in scale between the two games exacerbates this issue. When Gaijin integrates infantry elements into War Thunder—which it positions as its flagship product, boasting hundreds of thousands of concurrent players and extremely high name recognition—would it really go out of its way to accommodate Enlisted, a game with only a few thousand concurrent players and far lower visibility and profitability? Even if Gaijin were to take Enlisted into consideration and allow resources to be transferable, that option would be immediately discarded if it caused any disadvantage to War Thunder’s hundreds of thousands of players. For Gaijin, what truly matters is not “Enlisted, with its few thousand players and correspondingly low profitability,” but “War Thunder, with its hundreds of thousands of players and correspondingly high profitability.” This is already evident in Gaijin’s decision to use War Thunder—originally a vehicle-focused game—as the platform for implementing modern infantry, rather than Enlisted, which is fundamentally an infantry-based game.

For these reasons, I do not believe Enlisted will be integrated into War Thunder. On the contrary, if War Thunder expands into Enlisted’s domain, I expect Enlisted will be completely discontinued. I cannot say whether this prediction is correct, but at the very least, I believe it is pointless to place excessive expectations on the transfer of Enlisted’s resources into War Thunder. All we can do is hope that War Thunder’s infantry will not expand into Enlisted’s World War II territory, and that the two will not become direct competitors.

From my experience with War Thunder, it’s clear that Enlisted offers a far more immersive experience in terms of historical authenticity, atmosphere, and overall feel. In many respects, Enlisted succeeds better at drawing the player into its setting. I would also argue that the Enlisted community feels more refined and focused compared to War Thunder’s much broader audience.

There is a lot that could be discussed at length when comparing Enlisted and War Thunder. However, considering that Enlisted is already a combined-arms, infantry-centered game, the decision to invest in infantry gameplay under a completely different brand like War Thunder—which offers a fundamentally different set of game modes and experiences—stands out as a significant signal. For everyone who has invested time and money into Enlisted, this development is hard to ignore and raises important questions about the long-term direction of the game.

There’s no way you’ll get an answer to this. War thunder is in closed beta testing in a seperate client. Meaning they won’t be doing open beta testing for half a year atleast. It’s way too early for everything to get an “official” answer. They themselves probably don’t even know what the future looks like in general, much less these specific scenarios of combining the two games. Which i highly doubt will happen to begin with and if it does, won’t be for a couple years

Even if it does, they won’t be direct competitors. Enlisted is way more arcade/classic cod feel with the small playable areas. Warthunder is more sim like hell let loose with the giant playable areas. Warthunder would still be primarily setup for vehicle warfare whereas enlisted is more setup for infantry. I don’t think it matters that much if warthunder gets ww2 infantry

Certainly, War Thunder, which conducts matchmaking by freely mixing all eras, factions, and maps without distinction, is fundamentally different from Enlisted, and at the same time Enlisted has the major defining feature of historical authenticity. However, it is unclear whether this alone serves as a guarantee for Enlisted’s continued existence. This is because Gaijin has already made the choice to “discard historical authenticity for the sake of profit.”

If you already know this, I apologize, but I will explain the reasoning by giving a specific example. In the past, Enlisted was not based on the current technology tree system, but instead on what was called the “campaign system.” The defining characteristic of the campaign system was that progression and matchmaking were separated by individual fronts, such as Berlin or Normandy. As a result, it maintained a relatively high degree of historical accuracy. You would not see early-war German or Soviet equipment appearing in Berlin as you do now, and needless to say, unfinished prototypes or postwar-deployed weapons such as the Su-9, F-80, or Ho-Ri were almost entirely absent.

However, Gaijin fundamentally dismantled this campaign system and rebuilt the game around the current technology-tree-based system. As a result, historical authenticity collapsed, leading to cases of equipment that does not fit the era of the map—such as Tiger II and IS-2 in Stalingrad, Sherman Jumbos in the Pacific, and Panzer II and BT-7 in Berlin—and, ultimately, the appearance of postwar weapons. There is no doubt that the overhaul of the campaign system and the introduction of the technology tree were inevitable evolutions for the game to survive as an online title. It is also true that by integrating players who had previously been divided by campaigns, the game significantly improved its sustainability as an online title, through shorter queue times, better balance, and improved progression systems. However, what is important here is the fact that “Gaijin does not care about historical authenticity if it helps generate revenue.”

In other words, if Gaijin were to determine that “ignoring historical authenticity in War Thunder and incorporating infantry gameplay spanning from World War II to modern warfare” would result in higher profits, then Enlisted would undoubtedly be terminated. For Gaijin, the fact that Enlisted has established a unique genre has no meaning whatsoever unless it leads to revenue—and especially if higher profits can be achieved through other options.

And regardless of how things turn out, it would be difficult to obtain a clear answer from Gaijin regarding the question, “Will Enlisted continue to exist?” If Gaijin truly intended to shut down Enlisted, there is no way they would publicly announce it. Doing so would cause Enlisted to be completely abandoned by players, making it impossible to generate any revenue at all.

No, War Thunder Infantry is a direct competitor to Enlisted, as it features an entirely identical system except for the historical setting.

It has already been officially announced in War Thunder’s news that “War Thunder Infantry will be treated as an independent mode separate from the existing vehicle modes” and that “War Thunder Infantry features a squad system completely identical to that of Enlisted.”

War Thunder Infantry: Testing Details

These news articles clearly state, “War Thunder is launching closed beta testing for a new, standalone game mode,” and “When in the shoes of infantry, players will remain in the role of a single soldier, but with full tactical control over the entire squad. Squad members automatically follow the commander and assist in all combat situations.”
