Thank you for the correction!
Read my post again and come back when you understood my point.
Protection against heat was a real thing, however by accident.
Again, it was designed to protect from AT rifles, yet the extra distance between armor and skirt made it difficult for the heat to actually create a strong enough jet to pierce the target.
Yeah but only if angled hard, if quality of warhead was shit and if there was enough space.
Pretty sure that happened a lot.
- Here is a diagram showing an increase in the penetration of a cumulative warhead by moving it farther away:
“An additional increase in the effect of the already extremely energetic cumulative jet upon impact on the target is realized by detonating the cumulative charge for a specific distance from the target.”
That is the reason HEAT rockets have hollow points, to increase the distance from the target for the best cumulative effect, however it cannot be made long enough to have an optimal distance from the target on handheld AT weaponry because of obvious reasons.
cough

Or this…
Cages while having limited functionality still provide some protection, this whole “cope cage” thing the west created recently is despite the fact that cages/slat armor is part even of the TUSK kit for Abrams.
Love this video
My understanding is the side skirts were only for the AT rifles…soviets fielded so many
Schürzen does somewhat work against AT weapons. In Normandy allies I often found myself avoiding the Schürzen when shooting M1 bazooka and PIAT because it reduces their effect or when nicely angled complete nullified it.
Not that I mind really, that was it’s job and without it those tanks would struggle even more.
Been playing 2 years and just learned it actaully works, awesome
The fence panels the Russians put up actually didn’t do anything against panzerfausts but probably only made them “feel” safer.
German skirt armor was used to fend off against AT rifles, the only man portable AT weapon the Russians had. This armor did work against AT rifles but anything else didn’t help against.
When some parts of the Schürzen on my Pz.III N in Tunisia are missing I know I’ve outlived myself.
That’s probably more intended to try and prevent a multimillion $ tank from being taken out by a discount store quadcopter dropping a grenade into a hatch.
cough cough cope cough cough
but that requires skill.
With todays guided weapon systems, you meant:
Something they lack.
Where explosive packs?
