Why not just have a regular PPD-40 in Berlin instead of whatever bastard SMG the Snail cooked up

Because the Ork gun is cool

off topic but the chauchat wasn’t the worst gun ever made Chauchat: Shooting, History, and Tactics - YouTube

because the PPD-40 standard will most likely be the first unlock SMG, replacing the PPD 34/38

The current PPD 40 DSZ is op imho

That would most likely be the PPS-43 or PPSh-41 with stick mags

That can be said of the DT as well. Why is it even there?

not true at all - lots of people had no problems with it at all - the “bad press” is almost solely from US doughboys in WW1 who preferred the BAR when it came out.

The rest of the world continued to use them up to and beyond WW2 with few problems.

ETA: Apaprently American problems had several contributing factors:
-no manuals in English
-they got 2nd hand weapons from the French that had already had a hard life
-suggestions the French instructors were not particularly skilled at teaching Americans
-heavier than the M1903 rifle
-when rechambered for the 30-06 it was a more powerful round that over-stressed the gun components, which would then break, plus the round often did not extract cleanly due to poorly machined alterations for it

This has been discussed before, they where brought back to servers to arm militias

Well damn then why are they being used by the Red Army in game?

Many people’s militia units were designated as regular army units in 1941, and many subordinate units were absorbed by regular units as well.

you’d really have to look up the history of the 521st IR to see how accurate their depiction with the chauchat might be.

ETA - found a list online of infantry regiment associations with divisions - Infantry Regiments Distribution the 521st IR was part of hte 133 RD, but nothing more than that - I do have soviet RD histories at home I think - but the books are at hte bottom of a pile somewhere… I’ll se if I can find anything further.

That’s very interesting. I guess the Chauchat is okay. I still think replacing it with the Madsen would be a good idea

Not at all true,
8mm lebel and 30.06 isn’t much different. 30.06 is more powerful, but not by far.
The reworking of the chauchats by gladiator was just done… poorly.

go tell it to all the weapon websites that disagree with you… 8mm Lebel max pressure 320 MPa, 30-06 405-415 MPa…

Or i’ll go to trusted experts, who, I actually believe over random websites.
There’s no discussion here

The US army says cartridge power was an issue -

However rather than being a dismissive tosser I thought I’d see if there actually is a discussion to be had, because I like to learn and have no illusions about knowing everything. Looks like we both got bits wrong - there was no rework - the 30-06 was new manufacture.

This PPD was never used at the Eastern front

Or, I have had more than enough discussions on this matter on this very forum. To which, ‘everyone is a chauchat expert’.

I never specifically said the guns themselves had been reworked, but the reworking of the chauchat design itself to accommodate the 30.06 round by gladiator themselves was poorly done.

Just in case nobody knows, the “DSZ” was a limited production run weapon made in far eastern Russia. They never saw active use in Berlin as the PPsh 41 and 43 SMG was far closer to the front and in sufficient numbers.

As such it is an ahistorical weapon and should be removed. The MP40 I was actually used at least.

They honestly could just use the standard PPD-40

It seems like most of the Premium squads will be equipped with such weapons. The M2 Hyde and MP 18 Squads for Normandy, the PPT 27 and Berretta M1918 for Moscow. It just seems like thats how they’re going to do it.
