It is my somewhat limited experience with the IL-2 that even if there seems to be no effect, damage still has been done. I have had a number of instances where I have taken fire from what I think were Hs-123s, took many hits and somehow lost them, in those instances, I keep flying but my performance is hampered. I often have to struggle to keep the plane under my control and prevent it from going into a roll. I also struggle to maintain my airspeed and altitude. The IL-2 carries lots of small explosives instead of a few big explosives so in order to have an effect, you must be very accurate (something I am still struggling with). It is much harder and more dangerous to be accurate when you are wrestling with your controls and struggle to gain altitude. And the Bf.110 will absolutely shred you if it gets you in its sights. As a note, I have little experience with the Bf.109 in my IL-2
