Why does using iron sights on the sniper variant of the Garand make it get dark?

I think it may just change the model, look at the rifles and you will see it. Different wood types and colors sometimes as little as a few shades all the way to oposit color spectrum.

It may be loading in these alternate models in place of creating a whole new asset and having additional resource draw.
