I have a question about the Battle Pass reward changes, and I’d like to hear everyone’s thoughts.
Before the BP overhaul in November 2024, the Elite BP vehicle reward was a “standalone vehicle” — a uniquely-skinned version of an existing tech tree model, handed out as a separate vehicle. But after the overhaul, this reward was replaced with “vehicle skins” — just a camo slapped onto a vehicle you already have in the tech tree.
I understand the concern behind this change. Let me give a concrete example:
In the BP season right at the transition, the reward happened to be the King Tiger. Under the old system, that season would have issued a “standalone King Tiger vehicle.” And the problem is this — veteran players who own the pre-merge, King Tiger-capable retired squad, combined with the tech tree squad, plus this BP standalone vehicle, could field the King Tiger twice in a single match. The King Tiger is too strong, and two consecutive spawns would seriously break balance.
But here’s exactly where my question lies:
The “two spawns” problem could have been solved in a far more precise way — for example, by limiting the BP standalone vehicle so it can only be spawned with its own dedicated squad, and cannot be stacked with the tech tree or retired squads. That way, you keep the standalone vehicle as a reward type that players actually liked, while eliminating the “two spawns of the same model” imbalance.
Yet Gaijin’s choice was to simply cancel all future BP standalone vehicles and replace them entirely with skins.
This genuinely confuses me. Using a “one-size-fits-all” solution to fix a problem that could have been handled with “precise restrictions” comes at the cost of cutting an entire reward category that players enjoyed.
So I’d like to ask everyone: what do you think the real reason is behind Gaijin removing standalone BP vehicles? Is it balance concerns (like the King Tiger example), development cost, or something else entirely?
