Why can't all combat engineers use SMG / AR?

Hi all,

Really quick question from me!

How come German / Japanese / American combat engineers can use SMG / AR, but Russian combat engineers are only restricted to rifles?

German ones start with the MKB, Japanese have their BR4 Assault rifle and Americans have the hyde 1944. Then, with my Russian combat engineer squad, I get no option to give them anything else other than rifles.

Appreciate it is a bit of a niche topic as everyone does not have combat engineers, but still would like to know.

I swear i couldnt give them low BR SMGS?

I tried to give them some and it didnt pop up

That would be correct approach, as there were no Assault rifles for soviets in Stalingrad campaign. Only the AVT40 and SVTs.
There wasn’t any free bodyarmor either.
But bias strikes again

well, they are ASSAULT engineers so cant have smgs

What do you mean? They always use Assault rifles

Again, they can use assault rifles too

You know Soviet assault engineers used ppshs right? So just because of it has assault doesn’t mean they used assault rifles.
