Where is my 1440p resolution?

My game lets me play in 4K (2160p) but that is cooking my pc’s cooling system.
So I want to play in 2K (1440p) but that option is not there.
I’m pretty sure I used to play in 1440p in the past…

I tried several options (DX, fullscreen/window, etc.) but the 2K does not appear.
Yesterday I watched a YT video and the guy showed his options and he did have 1440p there!
All my settings are mostly the same as his…but no 2K for me.

Cant think of any reason why I do have 4K but not 2K…
What am I doing wrong?

BTW I use a 4K tv as pc monitor.
But windows wont let me select 1440p resolution at all.
So it’s not about the game but some windows setting probably?

it is actually TV setting, although you can override it in nvidia/amd settings. idk how TV will handle 1440p, so you can experiment.

Well, I dont know about his monitor, but I do know his game settings are 1440p

Normally this should work fine, but not in my case.

After doing some googling, I learned something new today.
My hdmi cable, with fancy gold plated connectors, can support 4K.
So I expected that it would support all lower resolutions also…Wrong!
Apparently the cable can ONLY support 1080p and 2160P and not 1440p.
How weird.

i find that hard to believe, cause cable is just cable and it doesnt inherently support resolutions. it might get rated for 4k, but that usually means that cable is rated for certain bandwidth that enables normal video playback at 4k resolution.

your tv is probably just not supporting 1440p cause it has trouble displaying 1440p vs 1080p or other supported resolutions. 1080p is usually displayed on 4k tv by combining 4 real pixels(2x2) into 1 for easy display. 1440p has trouble displaying same pixels cause it isnt pure integer number and needs 2.25 real pixels(1.5x1.5) for same picture and that isnt possible without some upscaling algorithm that needs to determine intermediate pixels.

monitors usually support upscaling on their side, so you can get 1440p on 4k monitor, but idk about tv-s.
