I’ve been playing the Pacific campaign for a while and my impression is that planes are completely snubbed. Unlocked the Zero for the most part I used it as a bomber because I never met anyone for a dogfight.
It’s a little strange because the Pacific campaign seems to me to be structured specifically for aircrafts (the aircraft carrier system is very nice and the maps are very open), but from what I’ve seen there is a general preference for tanks. It’s true that the first unlockable planes are extremely slow and fragile (see the A5M or the F2A3), but the Zero and the Wildcat (which I’ve encountered maybe twice in 250 games) aren’t complicated to unlock even in F2P and are very strong and maneuverable fighters.
Now that bombing has been introduced, using the fighter is definitely more fun because the skies are busier, but this doesn’t seem to have made much of a splash in the Pacific compared to other campaigns. It’s true that I play to have fun and maybe the plane isn’t the most profitable in terms of scores, but it’s quite boring if nobody tries to shoot me down except the thousands of anti-aircraft guns on the ground
Well one reason you don’t see dogfights is because how much better the Zero is compared to the FP-3, I haven’t played with the Zero but I know it has the best turn rate in game while i have played with the FP-3 and I’d say it’s a pretty subpar fighter. When it comes to bombers, people would rather just build an AA gun.
people dont need AA gun build when they have constant halftrack arrivals on the battlefield and thats actually players problem here …
but of course halftrack is used for totally different purpose
so i thought that people dont play fighters in pacific because they cant be bothered to take off from a distant ship, and now it seems its just skill issue that fp3 is worse than zero so why bother
looks like allies will rather grind whole campaign until devs bring them the most powerful kid plane ever at lvl 40 and only then they go to sky … shame that me as axis couldnt just run away like that from attrocities in form of early jumbo in normandy back in a day
The Wildcat is by no means a weak aircraft. It has a more practical frontal armament (four 12mm against two 20mm cannons - of 60 rounds each, which are not many - and two 7mm) it is much more resistant, it is faster and despite this it has impressive handling as well. It’s true that the Zero has a better tourn rate, that’s its strong point, but if you run out of 20mm (which is frequent) you won’t shoot the wildcat down except with the aircraft itself used as the last ammunition.
Probably depends on when and where you’re playing and what server, playing on the North America server during the first part of the day, I see quite a lot of dog fighting.
