What's the deal with the Assault mode for Normandy? ...Seems that it HIGHLY favors Defenders

Alright experienced fighters. Break it down for me. I’ve never been on an attacking team that’s won any of these Normandy Assault matches even though my son and I will go in clear out a point, take it and then try to hold it. We can’t hold them all by ourselves and eventually lose them and we have to start all over.

Is it total team tactics with everyone else on our team not working to hold points we’ve taken and then push? Is it truly unbalanced or is it just bad luck every time we load into a server? I’ve been trying to research what the deal is, but I haven’t found anything useful. Just mostly people complaining it’s unbalanced and others unhelpfully taunting and teasing them.

So, I figured I reach out and see how we need to adapt our tactics to start winning some of these new modes. Are there articles that folks have written?

Note: Neither of us are slouches and usually finish the matches in the top four of our teams if not the whole match.

I’m not an expert in Normandy so I can’t say. I know devs tweek capture times often for certain maps each patches, depending on the statistic they collect: Which faction wins the most? capture time augmented. Which is underpopulated? capture time lowered, etc. Reinforcements tickets vary the same way.

Also, I find that playing a game Father and Son is a beautiful thing. I hope you’re having a good time

Assault mode on the Manor (Moscow Campaign) map is very difficult to defend, though. Nearly impossible to do if you have an average team/a team that doesn’t quickly coordinate to build at least 2 rally points.

Axis or allies I tend to win most games as allies
Now of you get a competent German team it gets hard real fast but not impossible

Thank you. That gives us hope that’ll it’ll get tweaked so we can start winning some of these game modes in the near future. On our last one we played we had almost 400 kills between the 2 of us and our team couldn’t get part the 1st 2 points. :man_facepalming:Hahaha!

I worked as a senior artist for a very large game company for many years, a couple decades ago. So, I get that this is a beta and needs tweaking. I really appreciate your thoughtful response.

My son and I absolutely LOVE playing this game. My other kids want to play with us too, but we only have Xbox Ones and need to get Series X’s to all cross play together. We still have a blast. We are creating AMAZING memories and I’m very grateful for this game. It also gives us so many teachable moments about history, technology, war tactics, team work, self control, etc.

Thanks again!

Yeah rally points are key and I think most folks on our teams miss that which makes it tough, but it does sound like they need to tweak some things.

Thanks for the info! We only play as allies for now and we mostly win except on these new modes. We haven’t been able to win a single one which is why I posted. It seems odd and we’re wondering what we’re missing.

Our favorite is when it’s really close win or lose. We love to win, but learn so much more when we lose.

So much fun!

Yeah that happens some times my biggest issue is you can be the best player on the team but you have absolute retards as team members mostly new players

Hahaha! Yes. That can be frustrating, but that was us last year when we started playing and were the noobs. So I try to keep that in mind, but to be honest I’m not that great at it. Hahaha! We do try to “lead the way” set the example and pass on tactics we’ve learned as best we can in the most encouraging way we can. We sure appreciate it when others do the same.

That’s all you can do man here’s my latest win rates so you know it’s not impossible

Thank you. Nice ratio! :facepunch: Mine fell just under this trying to figure out how win those dang new modes. :man_facepalming:hahaha!

Planes and tanks on point work pretty well I’ve noticed you’ll get it man just takes time

 it seems that there is a bug in you K/D ratio as all the deaths in there don´t sum up 30 k, is this normal, have any of you have this issue?
Even though, great win ratio in normandy allies, mine is embarrasing .

Thx I’m a pretty sweaty player top of the leader board most games but the issue with the KD is some of this was right before and right when the KD chart came out and I’m not sure if other people finishing my kills count. But I know when it first came out it was buggy as hell

well, the assault mode it’s nearly impossible to win if the defenders keep targeting at least one point.

the only way to win, is to use smokes to get closer, ideally, from the artillery man. keep the line close so there will be no gaps between each other and/or clear out points with flamethrowers.

that way, should buy enough time for those who spawns and tries to get back.

another good " tool " is either a sherman / m10 or jumbo dubbing HEs around and near the point.

axis is usually defenders on normandy and that is why you have problem. they have more active playerbase than allies there, so you may get more bots in your team.

to increase chance of taking the points, you need a good rally point close (as in any game mode). also some points are harder to take, so it is best to target them first while enemy team is split.

Great tip! Thank you!

Thank you! This is fantastic info and tells me that these game modes are really more for experienced players using all battle assets at the same time in coordination and why only having just a few seasoned players won’t get the team a win.

I wish there was an easier way to communicate with teen members to convey more coordinate tactics other than typing, BUT making it easier would most likely lead to a toxic environment of grumpy seasoned players belittling new players out of frustration and discouraging them.

Guess my son and I need to recruit a couple more folks to our squad. Or invest in some xbox series x’s to get my other kids on board. They’re good too. But that’s a big expense right now. Too bad cross play on the same squads doesn’t work with Xbox Ones. But that’s a different topic.

Ahh! Thanks for this! This makes sense. So hit the hard point all together then hold it while sending units to adult the other.

Stupid question here: how long does an assaulting team have to hold the points before they can move onto to the next? (I’ve never been on a team that’s unlocked the second set. :pensive:)

Thanks again!

well, not really.

experience is the best teacher .
it just take times to understand maps, test stuff, and " get better " while playing.

as usual, " practice creates masters "

coordination is unfortunately hard to get as a solo player.

so if you don’t like it, i might suggest to check for others players to play with. for better cooperation and having fun.

personally, i don’t really know where to suggest beside the main enlisted discord. i heard there are good and friendly people there.

from there, you will be able to coordinate and have fun with folks.

( i’m more of a lone player. so again, don’t really know. maybe someone else will link a community or something. never hurts to look around the forum ).

that is unfortunately also present in almost every game. enlisted no exception.

but, how else are people supposed to improve?

a matter of opinions that would take long to just state the obv.
as such, the only thing that i can reccomend to improve is, play with friends or other folks, or do alot of practice in custom matches against bots.

might be abit boring, and not very rewarding as unfortunately custom matches without at least 4x players have been heavily restricted from gainin campaign xp rewards.

but, you will improve your aim, and start learning some maps.
planty of time to look around as well for possible rally point positions.

i feel you.

hope you and your kids can have fun together
