One of the main features in this game is the handling of AI-controlled squads, but I feel that this feature is poorly exploited. Therefore, I ask this question for everyone who reads this post. What would you do to improve this feature? I would personally add some Rts elements. I don’t have a really solid idea yet, but I’ve been thinking for quite a while about a new class: the commander. This new class could deploy squads controlled entirely by artificial intelligence.
At the first glance it may seem so.
But in reality AI role is to: be an extra life for the player and be a cannon fodder to shoot at.
Devs are missing huge potential AI has, bevause reasons.
Those are my thoughts after a year+ of following this game.
yes, I think the same. That’s why I think developers should experiment more with this concept which is much more common in RTS than in shooters. But apparently this game will just die soon, frankly I don’t see a future for it. Serious how can it take months to implement some damn bipods?
Having the opportunity to switch to bird-eye view mode and give orders to each of your squad members would be a really great feature. Not sure if devs would implement something like that someday.
Another thing about AI I want them to fix is its passive behavior. Very often bots just stand and do nothing. This looks very stupid. They should always spot targets very quickly and shoot at least in their direction. I don’t ask to make bots ultimate snipers though.
It took them like a year to implement “buy many” and we still can’t sell shit like mortars.
Priorities of devs are f-ed up.
At least we have 5 variants of prototype StG. so there are some positives.
I say buff all front liner squads ( assault teams, rifle teams, anti tank teams, machine gun teams.) Command distance and allow for you to command members from your map considering your on the front lines you should have my control on how you approach and should be able to tell like 5 of your members to flank from one side while you attack from the next.
At this point? I wouldn’t do anything, I dont want to even suggest any improvements anymore. If they couldn’t make it work in more than 6 years of development, there is no hope for anything at all. Actually I could have told them that things will end this way before they even started, and in fact I did.
Realistically they should either scrap it entirely or fire everyone and start from scratch. They won’t do that and anything short of that won’t produce meaningful results, so it’s pointless to discuss the topic.
My first objective would be to make A.I. more perceptive of player-built structures, especially sandbags - make the squad-mates take cover behind them, and maybe even mount the guns on it.
Perhaps tweaking the whole sandbag construction as well - making it variable in length and sharpness of turns. Maybe height as well (to allow AT guns and AA guns have some cover).
As for RTS mechanics… it would be interesting feature to make all squads effectively single-use, you spawn with all of the squads you selected pre-battle, and have to make do with what you got.
Sadly, with how the game is structured, it would take some serious modding and probably more, to get close to that. So, I highly doubt we’ll get there.
Alternative approach - squad switching in calmer moments of combat. That is - you switch to a different squad that is in the list that you chose pre-battle. Some of the squads can be too depleted/lack weapons/specialists to do a certain function (like, building rally points/other defensive structures/AT rifles/etc).
Considering that this feature is not in war thunder, I doubt this would be implemented here.
Overall, the structure of the game needs to be tweaked, for more serious changes.
