It means nothing, just DF advertising their paid content to you whenever possible. It being visible on the campaign tree means absolutely nothing

means also that said squad is a counterpart to the squads around that.
so a level 3 assaulter premium counterpart will be placed down the line and not early like a level 1 counterpart.
example : mp18 in normandy early on levels coz its a level 1 counterpart (perks and gun performance) then current tz 45. (perks , upgrade costs and gun performance)

Many of the premium squads don’t worth jack shit especially in high levels but there are those that are really worth it like the Naval Infantry squad for Stalingrad with PPSh along with the Axis counterpart with the Suomi because of the lack of a third assaulter squad there for now.
The game just tries to convince people to buy premium squads especially that they are on sale right now.
