Curious. Say i have a tanker and he has the 90% faster shifting of the gears perk, will this still work if he is in like the radio operator slot? or does he have to be positioned as the driver for the perk to have effect?

well, he has to be in the driver position to benefict from such perk.

Gunner, loader and driver perks only work on their seats
One the reason people state loader perk to change ammo type in a reload isnt working . The soldier with it isn’t on the loader position.

I have this perk on all tankers except the driver for lolz. Doesn’t work.
(forget the reload ammo sound) the perk, it does the same on public matches here. works good.
fire, when its reloading press R if u want to change the ammo type. even tho, i rarely change to HE on normal batles. perk is almost useless coz either way you have to fire the gun to reload. with or without.
Nope, still does nothing in SU-85 (or t34-85 with ZIS if that matters).

It worked for you because you were standing in the REARM zone , when you rearm your ammo you can switch ammo even after reloading , it has nothing to do with the perk , the perk doesn’t work
as i stated, it does the same on public matches without the sound of reffiling ammo.
mine is in the loader seat and still dosen’t work 
strange, i’ve been using him for some time, i tried various things but still nothing, even put him in different tank for same campaign.
will soon lvl up a 5 star for berlin, will try again.
