Upgrades over options: Progression or new unlocks?

I feel like, as we unlock more and more weapons and equipment, we are not really unlocking more options to equip our squads in most cases.

Like backpacks and pouches, as we unlock better bags such as the PPSh pouch instead of the SVT pouches those get quickly forgotten.

Also pistols, yeah the small ones are eqquiped faster but that will not make people prefer them over options with better capacity/damage.

Some examples of unlocking options over upgrades are the BR III Allies’ rifles and BR III Soviet SMGs, you get 2 options:

  • M1 Garand, a 8 rounder with less capacity but quicker reload

  • M1941 Johnson rifle, a 10 round stripper clip fed rifle with better capacity

  • PPSh-41 (box), a 35 rounds with a extremely fast RoF and slightly worse damage

  • Uragan SMG, a 32 round smg with a more discrete RoF and slightly better damage over the PPSh-41

However, we also get upgrades over options, leaving us with weapons with more appealing stats that will make us prefer them over the worse ones

  • Browning Automatic Rifles
  • MP-38 → MP-40
  • Bren LMGs (this is actually a downgrade from Mk.I to Mk.II)
  • DP-27 → DPM
  • Ross Mk.III → SMLE No.1 → L-E No.4
  • A lot of tanks and planes

It’s a mix between options and upgrades, but it would be nice if we get more options over upgrades instead of just leaving behind equipment

What do you think?

While I agree with the premise of the post, as many weapons are quickly forgotten or overlooked (aside from those like me who care for faction-integrity), a couple of your examples are fairly poor.

These are definite side grades, as pretty much the major stats (damage, rpm, recoil) are the same or within 5 points, the only real big difference is soft-stats such as weight or sight picture. Both the newer and older versions of the 2 LMGs have the same performance in match realistically, aside from the sights, which I feel handles the sidegrade use pretty well.

This one is a bit more interesting for a different matter. Yes, there are definite differences between the 3, but I have to say not many people will go the Lee Enfield No.4 for one major reason.

Upgrades.

Both the SMLE and Ross can be upgraded through mainline tech tree squads, and neither really outperforms the other as one has better ROF but the other has a bayonet + 5 extra rounds. The No.4 on the other hand, requires a different research line in order to unlock a riflemen squad off the side. And I honestly don’t think many people would rather research and upgrade a riflemen squad, considering it realistically offers no advantage over the first riflemen squad, and you can at this point in time have unlocked a 2nd MG squad for the Allies.

My proposal is they move the No.4 to a mainline tree (same as other non-grenade rifles like the Winchester M1895 for example) and only leave grenade launching rifles in the off-side riflemen squads. And this won’t really overshadow the SMLE, as many prefer its sights over the No.4s.

Should I make a suggestion on this?

This one I feel is so close to having either one usable. The MP38 does fire 10rpm slower by default and has 0.1 lower damage and higher recoil. However, it is far more accurate than the MP40. So, I feel they could hone in on that by giving the MP38 the increased recoil control the MP40 has (70% vs 60%) and pretty much swap the recoil and damage values. So now you have an MP38 that is easier to control, and deals slightly more damage to complement its better accuracy and range capabilities.

And as for the MP40, it can have its RPM increased to 550 baseline, like the historical version was, and a quicker reload, to complement a more close-range fighting style.

I prefer the MP38 over MP40 most of the time

Why would you ever pick the Mp38 lmfao

For the Erma smgs, yeah, it would be insteresting to have two SMGs working similarly to how PPS-42 and PPS-43 compete

I think the Bren Mk.II is a sidegrade to the Mk.I, which has a slightly better recoil pattern, and obviously a better picture from the sights. Since the Mk.I weights 8.1 Kg compared to the 10,2Kg of the Mk.II, the Mk.I could have slightly better movement (55) in trade of recoil, while the Mk.II could have better control to compensate its weight and poor visibility. The Vickers-Berthier is a sidegrade considering it has no movement disperssion, but only experienced players know that, I think devs should add an option for ‘Advanced Stats’ on the weapons display, so experienced players could compare the weapons’ hidden stats to determine which millimetric differences weapons have. (I meant downgrade but anyway they’re teoretically the same weapon, considering the later one was adapted for cheap mass production, anyway at their current state the sight is their most notorious difference)

The feel and look of course :3
The difference to me is little for MP38 and MP40, but the MP38 got that nice little line pattern on the barrel

A Condor and Stinger are always going to be a Condor and a Stinger, everything does not matter (Some other legendary weapons but those two). You kit for the style of play, I have multiple full Condor and Stinger squads because they are always going to be priority one if I can get them. Swords also. This event it will be two more swords. I practice melee all the time as Japan 1 so it carries to my other nations.

What does that even mean mate, I’m talking about changing/improving some of the equipment/TT weapons so they can be alternatives instead of filling discardable content, there is more than BR V weapons in the game, and there are people who doesn’t even play BR V at all

Sorry, bro I was replying to the guy under you. I did not read most of your post, its that typical whining about stuff that is the past. Its called >“VARIETY”< Yeah, No one plays BR 5, actually I play 1,3,5 use to play 2 not a fan of 4. I am guessing you are one of these fellas who plays on the weekend? Unlocked your first BR3 squad? There is clearly good stuff and clearly shitty stuff that is how battle games work for fucks sake.

I have fully unlocked BR III for all nations, and I’m moving forward to BR IV Germany (I gotta say I’m an addict to this game, I haven’t missed a single event since I joined). I made this post to ask people if they feel the same about lacking variety, some weapons feel like they’ve been made to be used one time and then discarded for better ones, it feels like constantly unlocking upgrades over variety, feel free to share if you think it would be ok if devs should consider making some weapons more useful or if their current state is fine.

MP versus Baretta versus silenced SMGs 2 are TT 1 is BR2 event weapon but stylish and care with a matching pistol. They are weak weapons but I enjoy the look of them more than the practical use.

The game has a TON of non TT weapons. They build up over the years. It is about their unique rarity.

etc etc tons of stuff I do not even use. But I am glad I have it because sometimes I do design squads around weapons if I have more than 3.

The sound is also something I enjoy with unique weapons. You can hear that Condor sing

Damn, that’s an impressive collection, looks like a lot of time playing, before the merge I see. Problem is, not everyone has been playing the game this long, or have time available for playing events, or have been blessed with weapon drops from crates.

That is the problem is that it takes years to get any large numbers of the good weapons so it comes down to more of a cosmetic consideration versus being a superior weapon that is why I mentioned those two specifically. There are 3-4 weapons considered OP I think they are 2 of them (Or at least 1). They kind of used it as an excuse to get rid of the gold order shop.
