I’m not familiar with the forums but i had a question that me and my friends not succed to respond : Are we losing equipement in the academy if we don’t unnequip our infantry and put them in the upgrade slot ?

No, all equipment will return to your stock when send them to academy or send them back to rear.
Except for the guy you get back - he keeps whatever equipment he took to the academy

your equipment gonna be taken hostage so make sure remove before sending them on academy.

unless you are just loaded like that with equipment 
The equipment returns after the training is done. During the training there is no way to use them.
