I am not sure if anyone had suggested this before however I do believe one map that included historic Brest-Litovsk city along with the fortress would benefit the game greatly. First of all initial phase of Operation Barbarossa is severely underpresented phase of the war in games and most movies and games only focus on the conflict during Battle of Moscow - simply because till that point Soviets did not see many victories. In Soviet Union the defense of Brest fortress was rather propaganda instrument, however this pivotal siege has proven that rest of Soviet Union will resist the same way as Brest defenders - till the last man.
The Brest-Litovsk area (city and the fortress) would serve greatly as a map for BR I and II players, as Red Army during June 1941 was undergoing re-organisation and weapons or tanks such as PPSH-41 and T-34 made it to the front only by Moscow campaign in autumn and winter of 1941. Just as Manchuria, only thing that would be needed to be done would be a map, as we already have items that could be used for this campaign in the game - some of you may have noticed that you can purchase white summer uniform for your Soviet squad at Battle of Berlin or some Soviet tankers have their iconic black uniforms - that is M35 uniform which was used until spring of 1943, then being replaced for M43 uniform. So pretty much only thing that would be needed to be done is re-texturing the collar patches for infantry, engineers, etc. This would also serve as opportunity to include Soviet NKVD border detachments with their iconic green hats that were also garrisoned in Brest fortress. SSH-36 helmet would also become primary helmet that would be issued to Soviet squads instead of SSH-40 that was still being put into production during that time.
So overall I do believe including summer 1941 in Soviet Union as campaign would bring unique experience to the players as they would see that “good guys” do not always win and it took extreme effort to push Nazi and Fascist invaders back to Germany and other countries.
