A anti tanker (only in special cases, usually they get either a bolt action or a Geweher 43
Nobody else
If I consider the FG42 sniper, then yes, I also am using it for a single sniper as of current (because of the like 20 more bullets I get with it than the sniper Geweher 43, although I don’t think the automatic fire is even useful. (Never used automatic mode with the sniper variant before)
Reasons: I usually go for semi autos as a standardized weapon for most classes but riflemen (most advanced firearm they will get is just a Geweher 43 at most)
Why Engineers out of all? Because I like the idea of giving high capacity arms to Engineers, who are easily the most important people in each squad, although I usually use FG42s like a Geweher 43 because my Engineers can’t handle the recoil of fully automatic unless I mount it or go prone.
I have like 3 or 5 Engineers armed with a FG42, and only one anti tanker.
Making them usable by the machine gunner class for the fallschirmjäger experience would be neat if a little silly. Technically it was partially intended to be used as a machine gun by paras although it is a Automatic rifle but was intended as a sort of a universal weapon. The main crux of the universal weapon thing is only around 7,000 were made and mostly in the hands of the Fallschirmjäger. I used to find the FG42 spam cringe but I don’t mind anymore because when I think about it the T20 is pretty cringe too.
If I were to suggest some solutions:
They could be limited to Fallschirmjäger squads and the T-20 could be limited to certain squads also.
Limit the number you can wield per squad relative to it’s size.
Play lower BR’s and pretend it doesn’t exist (what I do most of the time).
Reward players for running a Historically accurate (HA) or mostly HA lineup.
ergo run them in Fallschirmjäger squads and maybe a few in some elite SS units or some such, similar for T20 and other rare select fires if you like too. I like this because it wouldn’t stop you from running all FG42’s if you like but would reward you for having restraint equipping rare TT weapons. “If” this were implemented Id suggest there be no bonus (no negative either) for running lots of FG42s on squads who wouldn’t have used them on most of your soldiers, and +20% exp bonus for a variety of weaponry, as well as a +35% exp bonus for a full HA lineup.
At the end of the day I’m not too worried as BR 5 is neat in it’s own way, that being said (suggestion 5.) it might be nice to have a BR 6 to put some of the rare and experimental weapons further up rather than ruin people fun with the high br stuff or the HA purists lower BR’s.
Yeah well sorry about that It’s what I automatically thought of.
(edit) to be fair it’s probably the echo chamber in my head thinking of people (myself to an extent obviously) who don’t like the select fire meta. SF’s on engineers are good yes I agree. Again apologies.
Very plausible seeing as para drops became harder/more costly towards the middle/latter part of WWII.
Same for allied paras too.
(edit) you can make/imitate a TT fallschirmjäger squad with uniforms and equipment easy if you ignore the squad icon. Being able to para drop with the actual para squads too is useful seeing as you can select to spawn on the ground as well.
