I think console is technically trickier. I started playing console/xbox only lobbies and while my rating went down on Roll Call; my game to game performance has increased. I did fairly average playing mixed by default early on so I don’t think my advice has anything to do with it, my guy. Fixate on hobbies for a while and I got obsessed with how high I can get the daily logins to go. Learned a bunch as a result in the past 6 months.
A couple things that may make it easier to throw your grenades would be go into the settings and increase your FOV (Field of View). Just being able so see more of what’s going on around you may give you a better angle/view (like better hand-eye coordination, or thumb-eye coordination in this case).
Another thing to try is you can actually go into your settings and turn down some of the screen shaking beyond what’s necessary (you can on console anyway). Stuff still shakes but it removes a bit of the guess work while you’re trying to suss out how to gauge your thumb vs where it goes. I got like a movement tremor issue so I hit the wrong stuff all the time, it was a helpful setting to find.
Step back from objects/doorways/windows/etc, before throwing. Distance yourself from anything in a “real-world” situation your arms could touch or bump or someone with crappy aim in a stressfull situation could miss while throwing something. This is not Call of Duty or Battlefield or name-your-game.
Picture this; you’re nuzzled tucked scared in a corner near a window and you’re alone. You’re being rushed by Japanese forces with bayonets fixed who do not know where you are at this point. Your move, anyone’s move really, is to throw a grenade. Mine would be also. Every shooting game I’ve ever played had a boot camp where they taught you about grenades. They have a pin. You can cook them. Don’t cook them for more than 3-5 seconds depending on game. Even 4 is a stretch. If you just look at the window or enemy and hit the “grenade-throwing” button, you’ve just committed the ancient tradition of Seppuku; of which the Japanese hoards pursuing you would respect. Though your intent, as mine would be, was to destroy the enemy forces or take them out with you. Unfortunately you just click the “grenade” button.
It has likely flailed off into the wrong direction.
The difference is the same as with many things of the combative or artistic nature; breathe, flow, be like water young grasshopper.
Step 1: Know where your enemy is at.
Step 2: Take cover and deliberately think about where you just saw the enemy 2-3 seconds ago and where they are likely to be in 2-3 more seconds in relation to where you are now and where you’re going to be. Picture the lead guy, try hit the AI grouping behind him instead of him. If you’re near a window, don’t throw when you’re near the window. Choose the correct grenade type (you can take different types in on the same homie). (all of Steps 1 and 2 should have happened in <2 seconds of thought, make it automatic).
Step 3: Pull the pin. (You have 3 seconds to do what you have to do; it’s blowing up in 5. I don’t care what the actual times are, in the moment you can’t accurately gauge that so count to 3 and have that thing gone, knowing you have another second at least to play with even though you’re guessing.)
Step 4: Step back and to either the left/right/wherever to aim and cook, look around. (Be at second 1.5 - 2.5 at this point).
**Imagine you’re a real human with arms in real physical spatial-space, real life, etc. and personally were physically tucked inside a little farmhouse with a window you wanna throw a grenade through it to the inside of the house to the outside - don’t be directly in front of the window. Shoot the window open or open it, step back, cook the grenade, look at your thumb. I promise if you practice it you’d be able to Kobe grenades into second floor windows while moving. LOOK AT THUMB. That’s you’re crosshair.
At this point you should be Aware of relative target and likely location at time of detonation. Have been in Cover. You’ve pulled the pin, stepped back to aim, and you do Step 5 which is:
Step 5: Throw it at the exact center of your screen (which through relatively positioning yourself in real-time so the window to throw it through is also in the exact center of your screen when you let the thing go).
The arc it’s being thrown doesn’t change, so you have to account for that, but it IS thrown in a straight line. It’s not thrown in a baseball drive straight line. It’s an arcing straight line. It’s going perfectly straight but lobbed. You have to account for that. There’s a surefire way to deal with this issue and I alluded to it in my initial reply.
Step 6: (OPTIONAL) Run as fast as you can in the opposite direction of your grenades. Plan to do this EVERY TIME YOU THROW A GRENADE. Plan an exit, because it can be thrown back anyway.
