Got the P-51C last night so thought it was about time I tried the US aircraft.
Tried the P-51 first - pretty odd choice for the mid-range aircraft in this game I think. It’s got a light load and armament - an odd choice for a game where it is being used for close air support - I’m not even sure any of them were in hte USAAF at D-day?
I managed to shoot down a 110 on 1st flight before “losing situational awareness” (got confused between clouds and cloud reflection in the sea!) and drowning myself!
Had another couple of games with it & managed to get 1 kill - I know I’m not the world’s greatest pilots, but it’s not much use for close air support with only 2 x 100lb bombs.
Then tried the P-38, and once I figured out which Alt key fired the rockets found it much more useful than the P-51. Sure it doesn’t kill 20 troops in a salvo, but I was getting 2-3-4 quite often - it got 10 kills first time I used it, and 23 kills in 1 game before I got shot down by flak.
I haven’t flown the Soviet a/c since the update that introduced rockets (and bombs for the I-153) so rockets were new to me and it is easy to see how they are much more useful than bombs.
