Thoughts on the Sniper Garand/semi auto snipers?

I’ve just unlocked this Garand sniper squad. The lower damage compared to the Springfield is noticeable, but the rate of fire and magazine size are really nice for the sniper class. What do you think of it?

I’ve tried to account for the lower damage by using a large ammo pouch which doubles the ammo. It definitely helps, but the 1HK potential is of course still worse. That being said, it’s still much more flexible when you have lots of players pushing you.

I have never once seen a semi auto sniper being used for sniping.

Last I checked the low damage but high recoil made them pointless, but I haven’t paid attention since cbt

Yeah, you can only knock someone down with one shot from pretty close range. That being said, waiting for the recoil to reset is still much faster than chambering a bolt action round and aiming at the target again.

Might be useful against emplacements in that case, so the one thing snipers should actually be used for.
No good at traditional sniping, but that’s better done with LMGs than any sniper rifle.

Me dsnt know what nice did u find, but when u use x2 or x3 more ammo to kill the target its not OK even with large ammo pouch…
I can share the ancient wisdom with You, my friend: when You shoot the man in his left leg with 5.45cal and his right leg with 7.62cal, he will not notice any difference.

Well in this case you’re shooting the left with .30-06 and the right with .30-06 except one is magically weaker for the sake of balance.

No, since the Garand has a much higher ROF than the Springfield and does lower damage, you need more rounds to get the same number of kills. I always aim for the torso or the head.

And yeah as Shanghai says, the round is the same but for balance purposes the damage stat is different.

i personally think that those are " fine ".

like, nothing special, but they came very handy when defending. so that you can still play the objective ( if you want ) and manage to take out far enemies.

can be used in attack as well, for more agressive playstyle. but less effective from distance.

at the end of the day, an additional tool for a different game style

As long as the regular rifle damage is consistent, you could apply a higher damage per round for sniper rifles on the basis of specialised ammunition available to some - they’re all abstractions in the end, but some consistency WRT calibres would be good.

Too many people would be using them as regular rifles then. We already get that with SVT and FG 42 snipers

As far as I know scope mounted rifles are only available or equitable by snipers, and if not they should be.

There’s a dichotomy there - consistent damage, but higher damage for certain rounds

I believe that bolt action rifles should be a one-hit knockdown at any range, but perhaps semi auto rifles should only do so at limited range.

That is generally how it works now. But it’s fair that you should trade damage for rate of fire and damage per minute. I guess that’s a symptom of video game balance.

Yes?

I’ve heard a lot in the official Discord about players running snipers as de facto troopers that way, in cases like when you can get the SVT sniper before the normal SVT in Moscow

The reason why i saw so much svt sniper rifles without scopes.
Makes sense now.

I also just unlocked it - I used the SVT sniper rifles a lot in Moscow - as has been pointed out the rate of fire is handy.

But moreso, IMO, is that you do not lose the light picture when reloading!! THAT is the real bonus.
