That dude on the balcony of the other building is one of my nine man rifle squad bots. They are ordered to stay on the midway point of the stairs, yet, one by one, they go out on the balcony, stand there until they are shot. Why? They aren’t fighting, they are just offering themselves up as meaningless cannon fodder. This is basically how 2/3rds of our AI are killed off, nothing heroic, just suicide. If these bots were this stupid in real life, not one of them would have survived basic training. Hell, none of them would not have survived childhood. Stupid shit like this is why I went from playing 20 games a day to 3 or 4, this could be easily improved.

You have no idea how funny it was to read this at 10am lmao

I got you, it’s so relatable!
(Sometimes, i’m the one shoting, and it’s soooo satisfacting🤭)
Anyway,
Recently I’ve discovered the advantages of and started to use the personal order, placing each member of the squad, one by one, somewhere they don’t get shot so easely…
How do you have the time to micromanage them like that? I just adjust squad spacing to close if i want them to hunker down in a building.
is not that hard dude you can just bind a key to give indiviual order and then press it 4-8 times depending on ur squad size4
yet i gotta remind you that bots on this mode just loose 5% of their sillyness so it inst to useful but at least bots move and dont get killed easy as normally
I could do the individual orders, however, if the Dev’s are going to have a group squad command option in the game, it should actually work and the bots should follow the squad order given them. When was in the USAF and my squad was given an order as a group, the group followed it, no questions asked.
I don’t remember every squad member actually having to be pulled to the side and issued the same order individually. Of course, maybe in the Army?

i see that they have their behavior on passive. Is this intentional? since it mean they wont shoot unless they are getting shot at (which in most case they wont last long enough anyway)
Maybe not that hard to give separate orders, but that’s not the point. The point is, if the Dev’s are going to give us the option of one squad order or individual orders, then they both should work, and clearly, the group order does not. Could I let it pass? Yeah, but why should we allow something as simple as that slide, shouldn’t we expect more? Making a bot stay where ordered should be something a basic AI programmer should be able to do, it shouldn’t take an AI specialist with a PHD and 20 years of experience. ![]()
Yeah, I experiment, I have it on passive at times and aggressive at times. Neither really seems to make a difference, they commit suicide at the same rate.
To be fair I just fiddled with it in practice mode once or twice. You make it sound not so bad though. I will try it again.
I’ve found passive mode is useful if I need them to cross a street without getting distracted by who knows what and stopping out in the open to get shot.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
bind the individual command to your mousewheel
i never get this and its rare for this to happen to me
In this situation, I wanted them to stay put and not engage, so I placed them on passive. But I switch back and forth depending on the circumstances.
I get you, but I want the Dev’s to correct the issue, and if I stay quiet, they never will. Of course, I doubt they will address it anyway cuz they gotta know their AI sucks and have to have made a conscience decision to look the other way. ![]()
How could I forget the time I left my bots safely tucked away in a bunker, only for one of them to literally bolt out like a madman for no reason seconds later? That’s why using them is so annoying especially in open areas where the only cover is the occasional trench.
Also, How do you do the personal command thing?
Genuinely insane to me how the ai does not give a crap about you or other ai dying. Also hate when i die and spawn in the next soldier and the rest just run to me like tards and get shot in the back, its fascinating.
Well, considering I barely changed the default config, and also I’m playing on PC, the key to this command is “K”. Once you press it, a green arrow will appear under the selected soldier, wich will later show a green circle top left when assigned for something, with the “X” like the general squad order btw.
Like the squad command, if you walk away the order will be canceled.
