As I’m sure you’re all aware, NIEM has finally disbanded. Our leading member and head founder @SdKfz173DW-live has decided to pull the plug. This was a particular shock to me, since I was still trying to prepare a video for Romania and Hungary to be better represented. Don’t worry, that will still come out eventually.
So here I was, sitting on my chair dumbfounded, wondering what I should do with my life now. Do I continue making cheap jokes just to get 5 likes, do I continue baiting @Adamnpee and giving each other aneurysms? Then I got to thinking as to why NIEM failed. Everyone wants more choice, more sub-factions. That’s a given.
However, NIEM’s audience and aim was too narrow. Focusing on only Axis squads literally ignored half of the entire player base, however large that is. I myself wanted Italy and other Axis sub-factions to be better represented, however, I still had desires to have better Allied sub-factions. After all, I am an exceedingly rare All-Faction main, and NIEM…just wasn’t cutting it.
So, I have relinquished myself of Co-Founder role for the NIEM and have decided to found a whole new group. The SFAA (Sub-Faction Awareness Association). Here, any sub-faction fanatic is welcome, whether you are Allied or Axis. There’s no need to wear corny moustaches, or to post propaganda. All you need to have is passion to better represent a sub-faction.
I myself would love if they brought in more sub-factions and of course not just one NON-PREMIUM squad along with it organically, with more maps overall. Possibly another campaign system with a revised Tech Tree.
My ideas SO FAR: (Feel free to add anything you’d like.)
The Winter War [Axis (Finland) vs Soviets]
The Invasion of Poland [Axis (Germany) vs. Allies (Poland)]
The Invasion of France [Axis (Germany) vs. Allies (France and UK.)]
The Invasion of Greece [Axis (Italy and Germany) vs. Allies (Greece)]
The Siege of Leningrad [Axis (Germany and Finland) vs. Soviets]
Second Sino-Japanese War [Allies (China) vs. Japan]
Invasion of Sicily / Italy [Axis (Italy and Germany) vs. Allies (USA, UK, Canada, Free France)]
Invasion of Hungary [Axis (Hungary and Germany) vs. Soviets]
Of course, adding Australia, New Zealand and other Commonwealth nations to the UK, as well as adding Slovakian, Romanian and Hungarian squads to most of the Eastern Front.
Edit: If you spot a mistake in there, it’s 5 AM, I’m sorry. LOL
NIEM was the National Italian Enlisted Movement, which aimed to bring a better representation of Italy into Enlisted. Or, in other words, bring more squads for Italy. Specifically, legacy squads.
Sure. You were the only one who pulled it off anyway.
Since you’re doing Romania / Hungary, and adding France is like asking the Devs to release an update on time (never going to happen), I might spend my time on researching Manchuria. I figured it’s about time that Japan (and eventually Soviets) get their own subfractions.
Count me in, more subfaction content is always welcome in game, no matter from where. With how much unique stuff from minor nations there was, there’s plenty to give out.
For Japan, Manchuria would be too controversial to Chinese audiences (the most fragile group netizen there is), better to avoid that controversy (as sad as that might be), also adding Manchuria as a subfaction won’t bring any new equipment to the faction (they’d be using the same things as Japan, except a influx of Chinese Mausers, but that’s not very interesting).
Thailand would be my ideal choice for a Japanese subfaction, they have some unique gear that could be added that would not only add new flavour, but also new capabilities to the rest of the Japanese factions, such as the M1888 straight-pull Mannlicher rifles (so Japan could also benefit from a weapon with the new “aiming whilst cycling the bolt” mechanic) and FN 1910 and/or 1903 pistols (.32 ACP and long 9mm cartridges respectively, new for Japan). Thailand used a mix of European, US and Japanese gear during the war, so new additions (like the three I just mentioned) that doesn’t exist elsewhere can be safely added without overlap, Japanese gear already exists from the parent faction, and the rest can be slowly added as premium or event content.
No idea what to do for the Soviets, I think giving them Poland will give a lot of people bad tastes in their mouth, we don’t need “Russia liberated their Polish Friends” bullcrap here. Yugoslav Partisans, added together with a new Hungarian or general Balkans campaign (such as a “Siege of Budapest” map) perhaps? Could shove in again some new and unique gear that Yugoslavia had (French weaponry for example) in the Soviet tech tree that no one else has, then they can mostly live off Soviet supplied weapons and US/UK lend-lease (which the Soviets already have, of course).
OggeKing so long as its additive and not subtractive, that is not removing youre unique content while pilfering content, the m1 Garand was not a British weapon. I believe in adding content adding choices. want to lart as yanks with brit gear i approve, want to larp as brits with yank gear. want brits to use garand while removing the bren from us soldiers sod off.
Could do one of the many Soviet states, Mongolia even could be funny. Though there wouldnt be much new gear almost all of their gear was hand me downs from the soviets.
Mongolia would be awsome, ethnicly distinct and their own unique uniforms as well. But yeah there’d still be the issue of them sharing almost 100% of their equipment though, but it’d still be cool…
How could I forget Thailand? If they have a better variety of weapons, and aren’t as controversial, I’m all for it. I suppose I could still do a Manchuria squad with what we already have in the Japanese tech tree.
