The Sd.Kfz.251/10 was a modification of the famous “Hanomag” Sd.Kfz.251 APC, meant to be a command vehicle to support infantry units. The main change is obviously the 37mm PaK 35/36 anti-tank gun mounted where the frontal MG 34/42 would be. A total of 311 of this variation were produced from 1942-44, and were eventually phased out of frontline use in 1944 from the obsolescence of the gun.
Now while this does increase the firepower of the vehicle a decent margin, do keep in mind the cannon will be the same as the 37mm cannons on the Panzer 3 B and E while having none of the other luxuries as it is an APC (limited gun traverse, no MGs, open-air, ect.). The penetration of the cannon’s APHE is enough to deal with lower end BR1 tanks, but anything from the M5 Stuart and T70 onwards are pretty much frontally immune (the Crusader being the only exception that comes to mind). The HE shells aren’t very remarkable either, similarly lacking to other 37mm cannons, but still usable at the very least. One pretty big positive about the gun though is that it has a quite fast reload speed, at 2.7 seconds per shell.
In game, it would be a unique alternative to other APCs around this range with it’s 37mm cannon. While it probably won’t be all that powerful (especially depending on what shells it would get), it would still have the APC function at the end of the day. It will likely be an event APC like the Stummel because it has the unique factor of having a cannon, but I’ll keep the options open in a poll. As for the BR, I think it will most likely be BR2. While I think it could honestly fit into BR1 with how weak the 37mm usually performs, all other APCs are on BR2 for the time being (except for the Stummel at BR3). It is worth noting, but it is modeled in the editor and looks like it was usable at some point (https://www.reddit.com/r/enlistedgame/comments/nj44uf/sdkfz_25110_ausfd_in_the_future/)

As mentioned earlier, the APHE round is insufficient against many opponents it faces, but there is an alternate shell type this vehicle can get that can possibly change that. In War Thunder, there is an option to use APCR rounds for the 37mm PaK cannon: these bring the penetration up to a much more viable 77mms at the cost of losing all explosive filler, which in my mind is a balanced trade. Considering the fact that the total ammunition storage for the 251/10 is 168 rounds, even just a few APCR shells would let it be at least a bit more viable to use.
Should the Sd.Kfz.251/10 have at least a few APCR shells?
Yes soldiers will cram themselves onto anything if they have to like riding the backs of tanks, but I’m talking about the explicit role; otherwise we might as well make everything an APC
The standard configuration of the Sd.Kfz 251 was to carry 10 soldiers. The other variants were designed as combat platforms to support the mechanized infantry. More soldiers couldn’t even fit into the vehicles because they had to carry a new weapon system, it’s ammo, and the soldiers crewing it
It was a mistake that they made the Sd.Kfz 251/9 an “APC” in the first place
The standard vehicle’s explicit job was to carry infantry, the other variants were not. They were basically “tanks” (I’m just using tank as a catch-all for all combat vehicles from tank destroyers to self propelled artillery to AA)
They would have to be like BR1 & not as an APC. If it was an APC it can’t be anything lower than a 3. In which case the 75MM variant is what most people will choose due to the thin armour of the 251. Like this might be able to cope against .50 cal half track but it will die to everything else.
Yeah exactly. Germany’s Sd.Kfz armored personnel carriers have a full lineup of about 15 to 20 variants, including flamethrower, anti-air, and command versions—there’s tons of them. If they really released every single one for sale or as event vehicles, the game couldn’t sustain it. They’d probably never finish adding them all even until the game shuts down. So inevitably some of these have to be held back as TT tech tree content.
Yeah exactly. Aside from tanks, the game really should have vehicles to support infantry.
Tanks often just stay back lobbing HE rounds or dueling other tanks, and can’t support infantry most of the time. Armored personnel carriers are meant to fill that gap, fighting alongside infantry in mobile operations.
