The idea of splitting the Allies and Axis tech trees is rather popular, however there are problems that I think make this impossible.
Don’t get me wrong, I do see the appeal. Many people say it’s necessary for the longevity of the game. I personally am sick of having 2 of every utility item. Trying to assign the right items to the right squads is a real pain. As is not being able to have your preferred nationality for certain soldiers. Not to mention it makes the grenades easy to mix up. Along with the fact that they don’t count as the same thing in the present which leads to a lot of frustration. Splitting the USA and the commonwealth along with Germany and Italy seems like a great solution to all these problems.
Unfortunately now comes the part on why I think this isn’t possible. Of course this can’t happen and the current moment as it would leave too many tech tree gaps. There simply aren’t enough weapons to fill them in history is the main argument against splitting the tech tree.
The thing is, that isn’t the real problem. The real problem there is, and they’re already in the game, as premiums! The vast majority of guns that could be used to fill the tech tree gaps are already implemented as premiums. Are there still some left that could be used to fill some gaps? Yes, but there are not nearly enough to fill all of them. The devs can’t just take premium weapons and put them in the tech tree.
Unfortunately it seems that the devs simply did not think this far ahead. By their own workings they have accidentally blocked off this route of progressing the game. The only thing like this that I could see working is splitting the US and Commonwealth tank tree. That’s the only path that I see having enough unimplemented content to function. At least it’s one of few trees that is actually too bloated. It could be quite a good quality of life increase. At least I wont have to give up my no.4 SMLE with M1 carbine secondaries any time soon.
