The current 900rpm that the Johnson lmg has is the result of sloppy research on the Devs part.
If you search on Google the rpm of this gun this is the first result:

The Devs have clearly seen this and taken the top rpm and used it as the standard rpm then taken the lowest rpm and put it as a “auto slow mode” (which the gun never had by the way)
In reality the m1941 lmg had around a 550rpm rpm:
page from m1941 lmg user manual

And a further source that states a 550rpm:

Whilst the m1944e1 version had the higher rpm that the m1941 had been given
page from m1944e1 user manual

It even mentions gas ports being able to change it’s rpm so perhaps this suggests that it could achieve 900rpm and was used as such
So I suggest:
•M1941 should be br2 with it’s actual 550rpm and other nerfs:

•M1944e1 should be added with the higher rpm and should be br4:

Directly they can give us BR II Johnson and a new BR IV Johnson. Same thing they did with type 99 :
''The conversion of the Type 99 Nambu from 7.7x58mm Japanese to 7.62mm NATO requires only a new barrel, and no permanent modification to the gun. Some people have converted M14 magazines for them because original 7.7mm magazines are very rare and expensive."
And all tests of Type 99 show that the rate of fire is not 550… as some books claim since we have the guns same was the story with ZB 26 and ZB 30. They literally disregarded all the live tests with the gun.
Reported Rates of Fire:
- 700 RPM: Found in several historical descriptions of the weapon.
- 550 RPM: Japanese Army data from the period.
- 800 RPM: U.S. survey data suggests a higher potential rate of fire.
And some even suggest higher like 850.
The rate of fire is influenced by the gas system’s setting, with a cleaner weapon and higher gas pressure allowing for a faster rate. * Gas System Adjustment:
The Type 99 had an adjustable gas system, which allowed operators to alter the weapon’s pressure.
Same is with ZB 30 and Type 99 that have adjustable gas pressure that is a feature of the gun and the rate of fire can be between 550 and 850 depending on the production variant and the state of the weapon.
M1944e1 can have its rate of fire adjusted also depending on the game balance since it really depends on the gas setting and the condition that the weapon is and such changes are good for the game since you can nerf and buff weapons rate of fire very good for game balance.
Well its not sloppy since they are not weapon experts and weapon experts debate to this day on many of this guns. Specially the historians they are the worst since they never examine the artifacts and accept some paper source as a true value while multiple tests show absolutely different values and the modern technology allows more accurate research on this weapons then the technology they had in world war 2.
The change in rate of fire of type 99 lead to just using more SIG KE 7s then Type 99s that where used a lot in the past so much for their realism.
So if they make Johnson change the rate of fire can be made with gameplay in mind first since it really is not a exact number and its between. So the BR II Johnson can have rate of fire of 500 in its fast rate of fire setting and the BR IV Johnson can go with 900 since it has only 20 rounds and nothing will change for the people that love the Johnson since they will have BR II Johnson and BR IV Johnson with similar stats to the Johnson we have right now so its a win win situation for all if we get 2 Johnsons.
It’d be nice to finally see a US (American) br2 LMG.
To minimize disruption to players’ presets, it would be best to keep it as is and rename the existing M1941 to M1944e1, and add a M1941 separately with the lower ROF to br2. Folder the brens as well.

The guns model looks completely different though, and if the m1944e1 was added I wouldn’t want it to just be the same gun with different stats I’d like it to look different.

Well if they give it right colors it wont look much different it will have the original vibes. However the sights are much better.
Then give the existing 1941s a new model and name representing that, and add a new version with the old model. Making a change to existing guns as drastic as moving it 2 BRs down and nearly halving the firerate would be scummy, when it could be easily avoided.
Please read the suggestion. The current version would be fixed to match it’s real life counterpart and the higher rpm version would be added to fill the current Johnson’s niche. You loose nothing, it’s a win win for everyone.

Sure, adding new weapons significantly stronger than what we currently have won’t kill the game by constantly making old content obsolete.
please read the post, the new br4 Johnson would be identical to the current version and after the current one receives nerfs then it could fit into br2.
