Tactical Moving

This is not a suggestion thread. Probably because I think it would be difficult for the game to achieve this…
It is just a discussion about how I would like to see such a feature someday.

There are several rules of infantry troop movement.
First of all, do not move everyone blindly.

A modern tactic is “leapfrogging”.
Simply explained, a squad is divided into two and advances alternately. Team B would cover them from behind with their guns. If enemies appear in the perimeter, Team B will fire and help Team A. If the enemy is in the perimeter, Team B will fire and help Team A.
When the A team reaches the shield, the B team moves forward, and the B team moves further ahead than the A team, while the A team covers them. The process is repeated to move safely.

LeapFrogStep2
LeapFrogStep3
LeapFrogStep4
LeapFrogStep5
It would be fun if the AI in the game could be richer and Leapfrogging could be done.
The game already allows troops to stay in certain positions, so if they could make the AI’s shooting accuracy when stationary and its reaction sensitivity and speed to enemies better, we could have pseudo leapfrogging with players and other bots.

AI don’t need advanced thinking skills.
They just need them to hide properly, wait, and shoot properly under certain conditions.
This is the current Enlisted bot, but I am waiting for the day when it becomes something that makes me feel like I am “leading the troops”.

Leapfrogging is a modern tactic and the one used in WW2 was strictly slightly different. Also, infantry tactics differed in detail between Germany, Japan, USA, UK, and different countries, and I won’t go into the differences here, but it would be even more fun if each country had a slightly different bot behavior. For example, if the Japanese army did a bayonet charge, the bots would charge with them.
Well, if the game were to express that level of detail, it would be more of a strategy game than an FPS…

It is all a dream.

BTW, the bot is quick to spot and fire on the enemy when in a vehicle.

I know a few years ago the bot was this sensitive even when not on a vehicle. The bot is too powerful!" It has obviously been weakened by people’s whining that "the bot is too strong!”
They have repeatedly headshot me with wallhack and autoaim from hundreds of meters away, which is overkill, but the current bots are so weakened and almost blind that I would like to see their performance adjusted a bit more.
I’m fine with their current reaction speed when moving, but when stationary they should be more perceptive in finding and shooting at the enemy.
And it would be even better if they could be commanded to turn active fire on and off and form up, like in the old days.

The recent update to the wounded bot to try to hide in shields and use trenches somewhat properly was a very nice improvement. We are moving in the right direction, albeit slowly.
Hopefully the AI in the game will get better. :grinning:

You can do it if you play with friend. One of you shoots, the other moves (and so do your squads).
Sadly AI is too brain damaged to effectively use cover and their shooting is meh at best so it’s not super effective.

Yes, I know Voyo, but I have no friends.
Can Voyo be my friend?

Yeah, that’s right.
We need to fix their brains first.

And I still want bots to be able to take tactical action within squads led by players.
Players, the smallest unit of force on the battlefield, have their own squads. Cooperation among players meant cooperation among squads.
And that’s what I want the game to be, a game where only a few players can achieve platoon-wide cooperation and action.

Operation flashpoint (ARMA), which I played with great enthusiasm 20 years ago, already did that.
I really hope that happens because I see Enlisted as a casual version of ARMA and I would love to see it become so. :grinning:

Brothers in Arms… Hell the Time Ubisoft was good is soooo loooong gone.

A game that handles this well these days is Company of Heroes
I wish enlisted had the same properties

Yep, it is the best game…
Enlisted is personally a fun enough game as it is now. But if they could improve the bot movement more, this game would be a killer title that would beat CoH, ARMA and Battlefield.

Better bots + bigger maps + no dispersion = perfection

It’d be cool if they were coded to use cover like that when you sent them off on their own. Make it more likely they reached wherever you sent them

Yeah, the AI definitely needs to learn to hide better. I think it has been improved after one of the recent updates. My AI squadmates are getting much more kills than they were just a week ago. I would also like to see more AI command options, maybe something like your tactical moving idea. Or maybe just something simple like telling certain AI squadmates to hold a certain point or whatever (because right now you can only command the whole squad to move, not just one soldier)

Yes, AI is steadily getting better.
A few years ago the bot was getting more kills than it does now, but its behavior was mechanical and unnatural.
Devs seem to be working hard to develop better bots.
