I dont know how its called correctly if you dig in a tank, but the engineer or even the tank crew could do this.
I thing it wont be possible to place it beneath the ground but on top would also be fine. Your tank hull has better protection, but you have no mobility. The tank could be permanently immovable.
(if it is planned to add physically artillery guns to the game, then the tank-hole-feature would be obsolete) -
wooden infantry bridges over rivers or even ponton-bridges for tanks. They could wear down so that they are not too inbalanced.
Engineers already got a massive ammount of building choices. I think they should limit the ammount of diffrent buildings he can place:
1 offensive (MG or AA)
1 defensive (barbed wire, tank trap or sandbags)
1 utility (respawn beacon or ammo crate, maybe new medkit crate?)
Edit: This is also because the ammount of buttons/options is too much right now to remember which building is under which number after using an engineer once or twice. You need to play him a lot to remember the building order, which is a bit too much to ask for imo.
I am all in for a reduction in how many builds engineers can place. Had an instance today where a whole house near the cap zone was filled with barbwire. People haven’t been shying away from using it since it can be constructed fast.
I’d give 1 barb wire, 1 tank trap and 3-4 sandbags.
