STG 45 Kurz SMG

016-1 (1)

Robert Starer of Historic Arms Corp. proudly shows off his one-of-a-kind German Sturmgewehr prototype that he bought at auction from an anonymous seller some three decades ago. Starer says that whoever registered it in the 1968 amnesty was savvy enough to give this unmarked weapon the StG45 designation when completing the paperwork. One possibility is that whoever “liberated” it was linked to the Army Technical Intelligence teams that swarmed over German armaments factories as soon as they were overrun

The Stg 45 Kurz SMG is an extremely rare and obscure piece of German weapons history, emerging in the final months of World War II as part of the Third Reich’s final efforts to create cheaper, simpler, and more efficient weaponry.

In 1944–1945, Germany, in economic and military collapse, sought low-cost, highly efficient solutions to replace the expensive and complex StG 44.

Mauser developed the Gerät 06 and 06H, evolving into the StG 45(M), which used a roller-delayed recoil system—unheard of at the time, and revolutionary.

Origin of the StG 45 Kurz SMG

During the development of the StG 45(M), Mauser reportedly experimented with a compact and lightweight version, aimed at:

Second-line troops

Armored vehicle crews

Paratroopers

This version, never officially named, is now known by historians as the “StG 45 Kurz SMG” (a modern descriptive, unofficial name)

Technical characteristics (reconstructed by experts):

Caliber: 7.92×33mm Kurz (same as the StG 44)

System: Roller-delayed recoil

Fire mode: Semi-automatic and automatic

Rate of fire: 450–600 rounds/min (estimated)

Feeding: 20-round magazines probably

Length: Shorter than the conventional StG 45

Produced only in prototype form, in very limited numbers (possibly 1 or 2 units).

Looking this image it appears to have 20 rounds

If this weapon existed I think it would be a good weapon in an event or premium paratrooper squad.

notice the magazine being different from the StG mag? All Germans guns firing 8mm kurz use the same magazine so this is probably a post war Swiss prototype.

cool gun, I like that its a mesh up of Mp40 and StG44 but this is not a gun to add to the game.

I’ve seen this post about 50 times or more and it’s from 13 years ago, a lot has changed and new information has appeared

alright, if you have any evidence that suggests that its a ww2 gun, then Im happy to see it since I would like this gun to be in the game as well.

It was registered as STG 45, that works for me

US gun registrations are not made to a historical standard but rather a administrative one.

And as you suggested, the name is fictitious, a 1968 fabrication.

A weird gun with no background history bought from an anonymous seller.
The only thing going for it is the designation which can be played around with or be incorrect just like Mg13 and VG1-5 which was actually designated as Mp507.

That’s not how it works. Counterfeits are often sold at auctions. There’s a great article in Russian about supposedly Japanese Luger pistols.

It would be nice if it was added as a battle pass weapon with SMG like M2A1.
Then I think I’ll get rid of Cönders as a main for guerillas or drivers and use this.
I think it would be very good, especially for guerillas.

The gun doesn’t have a wooden stock , that is all you need to know , to know this is not a German weapon , German STG family had its spring go through back of the stock , removing it means a huge redesign of gun , which means investing assets which Germany didn’t have by 1945 .

This is most likely a Swiss prototype , they made a lot of German inspired prototypes after war . (Though far more unlikely, this could also be a Spanish prototype , they also made a lot of STG copy / prototypes)

Not an SMG by definition… and the naming is kinda stupid “Ah yes, the Assault rifle submachine gun”
