Starting gear is very competitive

I wanted to know more about how it somewhat feels to be a new player in this game. Ofc I got a huge experience, map knowledge, etc but I think I got some kind of evaluation when it comes to the gear and starting conditions.

I decided to play the one of the toughest campaign/side atm for a new player - Normandy Allies.

Ofc the very first two games was against bots and a couple of players, but the first real match was fought against all humans and a late tier weapons:

Second game:

I did also try one game in Berlin after one mandatory beginner match against bots.

You should all try to play some matches in this way. It’s not only a different experience and quite fun, but it’s also perhaps educational to see what the game is for the new ones. Normally, after all hours played and level grinded you maybe (like myself) got lost a bit in the meta to be competitive in the sweatiest of sweaty matches. Now, when I more or less had two one star smg:s and had to rely on bolties it struck me that I forgot how damn good and powerful they are.

One downside is the lack of variations when it comes down to playstyle. You will not have the right tools to dictate or turn around the game.
But that’s probably not a big issue for a lost newbie anyway.

Once you have the map knowledge and places to go, even the default BA rifle comes in handy for a veteran player.
Ofc meta weapons grand you a possible higher killcount but yet your Playstyle should have changed significantly over the time, knowing exactly where to run and how to aim.

I keep mannlicher carbines riflemen squads in Normandy and mannlichers rifles squads in Stalingrad. Ofc I could use fg42 or mkb instead. But those starter lvl weapons are so fun to me, and that’s what matters the most: fun.

I do keep doom squads at the ready if I face ppsh41 or mkb spammers, thought. That’s what the 10 slots are for…

I remember I did an experiment in Normandy as well, which resemble what you just did: I refused to buy or upgrade any equipment or troops, only playing with “vanilla” default squads, for months. It was really funny (I didn’t care losing while using such bad squads) yet I always ended up top 3 anyway… So yes, like you say, starting weaponry isn’t bad. Mind you, I did this even BEFORE bolt actions were buffed!

don’t call them doom squads, call them the elite squads

I grew up with original doom

It’s a shame they dont have this outfit why i decided to put two assaulters in this squad.

Sounds like a good compromise!
Been thinking along the same lines:

Yeah it’s great fun!

Have I converted someone to the joy of using that wonderful rifle? One of the best if only thanks to it’s great bullet cycling speed!
