The T17E2 [22] was an T17E1 fitted with a Frazer-Nash-designed turret mounting two 0.5 inch (12.7 mm) M2 Browning heavy machine guns. The turrets were built in the US for British Motor Torpedo Boats. Redesign of the turret and mounting was carried out. 2,610 rounds were carried. The turret was open-topped and had an electric-hydraulic traverse system with a maximum slew rate of 55 degrees a second.[23] It had a reduced crew of three: commander/gunner, loader and driver.[23]
1,000 units were produced between October 1943 and April 1944, when production stopped.
The chief weakness of the staghound vehicle is the four wheel easily punctured by most weapons. Lightly armed with 2 50 caliber guns it has a high rate of fire but little stopping power. The agile warrior would fair far less well on the small restricted maps of enlisted. The upside of he smaller shells is prolonged fire in fights with infantry and light vehicles.

The versatile hull of the staghound saw everything from the light 37mm and 57mm anti tank weapons rendered obsolete by the cats of Germany. Later even a 75mm howitzer, tulip rockets and even modification into a protype aa model with 20mm and 30mm guns. The staghound designed for desert warfare became a rare sight on the battlefields of Africa and the middle east.
