Ok i know what HE shells are, but why are they so unpredictable ? Using the Tiger II H, I lob two HE shell through a window, one does nothing, not even exploding when hitting the inside wall, the other hits a enemy and clears the area, why ?
I believe that hard walls stop the “kill radius” in relevant directions. So shooting a room is likely to waste a shot as opposed to shooting a roof or floor. But yeah, some shots just wipe out squads and others just do nothing. There is a fragment pattern too I believe, which could be the cause. For instance, 1 50kg bomb can take out random targets in its blast radius in the test room, but leave a couple in the same range untouched.
I suggest you shoot the enemy directly with shells, because the center of the explosion will be on the soldier, This will have greater lethality. When a shell hits a wooden house or floor, it seems to be absorbed, so try not to do so.On the other hand,It’s better to shoot the ground than the wall.
Although these experiences have no scientific basis, this game is like this.
I kinda like it, all the viscera and bone being blasted by it directly acting as a softer shrapnel, metal as hell.
I always saw it as incentive to actually aim when using a tanks gun against infantry, you’ll have to go for direct hits to get your times worth
Here is it:
Hit wall = normal boom in cone shape
Hit wood = multiple layer of boom in small airbust
Hit people = big boom in airbust
Hit tank = paper tank goes boom and armored tank does nothing
Hit plane = GG plane
HE shells were broken deliberately in a patch a while ago. They introduced a ricochet mechanic that essentially stopped shells that hit the ground from exploding. Hitting a wall is very unpredictable, sometimes you will nuke a squad, most of the time you will get nothing. To kill infantry with tank shells you need to hit them directly. This was done by choice, so they don’t consider it a bug. Like 20mm cannon damage.
