As it stands (as far as I know) recruited soldiers are given a random roll of perk points and higher tier soldiers are given a bigger pool of points to deck out with.
So what do we do with the soldiers once they’ve lost their usefulness? I just have to say bye-bye to all my Tier I as I sell them back for silver because now I have Tier III’s?
But then, what about the Premium/Exclusive Soldiers I can’t sell?
To this end I propose two new systems to work to defeat these problems.
- A Soldier Training System.
- A Soldier Promotion System.
What these entail:
- The Soldier Training System
The Soldier Training System focuses on rounding out or completing a Soldier’s stat budget. Once at 5 stars a Soldier under its maximum statbudget for its tier will bank Exp up to a cap. This cap being the Exp needed to buy it’s maximum stat budget.
Exp will be able to be spent from this pool as it accumulates to buy more perk points for the soldier, up to the maximum allowed for its tier. When spending this Exp, one will send the soldier for ‘Further Training’, spending the exp and a small fee of silver then return with the increased perk points and its perks reset.

- The Soldier Promotion System
The Soldier Promotion System focuses on keeping long-serving soldiers relevant.
When a soldier reaches 5 stars it becomes eligible for promotion if a higher tier of soldier exists. A soldier can only be promoted if the higher tier soldier is researched and available. IE: You cannot promote a Rifleman I to Rifleman II if you have not yet unlocked Rifleman II.
To promote a soldier, one will select ‘Promote Soldier’ then the selected soldier will be reset to 1 star, have its perks reset, and be upgraded one tier.

Additionally:
The current assortment of tiers for soldiers feels wildly inconsistent and could use standardising. Some get up to Tier III but many only get Tier II and a few only ever get Tier I. Then Assaulters are even weirder starting at II and going up to IV?
Soldiers should have their tiers standardised so that all soldier types get Tier I, II, and III versions. No more, no less.
This also means soldier types used early in the tech tree can have perk distribution to be worthwhile at higher BR rather than being simply discarded.
