Sniper Class Rework Idea

In most FPS games, unless it’s a pure deathmatch mode, the general perception of snipers has traditionally been negative when it comes to playing for the objective.

This is especially true in Enlisted. With how the game’s win conditions work, snipers often don’t contribute much to the team. In fact, they’ve even become part of a negative meme — “console + sniper” — and are generally viewed poorly by the player base.

That said, removing the sniper class entirely isn’t really a solution. So I came up with an experimental idea to improve their role.

Instead of just sitting back and farming kills, snipers could function more like infiltration units — similar to guerrilla classes — going behind enemy lines to spot targets, snipe key enemies, and most importantly, identify or destroy enemy rally points and vehicles for their team.
(This idea is inspired by Hell Let Loose.)

For balance, each team could be limited to only one sniper squad slot.

With this kind of approach, I believe the perception of the sniper class would change significantly. Instead of being seen as useless kill farmers, they could take on a proper reconnaissance role and become an important class that actively contributes to winning the game.

enemies in my own greyzone sniping engi yeah no thank you. removing the sniper class would be a solution… because apparently you can do everything you can with a sniper with a normal bolt action… so… they should just be removed if they only make games worse… however the main issue are new players getting it first. you should get engi and then sniper as a reward

Most of my sniper squads I have moved to BR5, removed their scopes and made them assaulter squads. I have three German BR 5 sniper squads which all sport Stg 44’s w/scopes removed, and three Soviet AVS-36 scoped removed sniper squads, so I really don’t use sniper squads for their intended purposes.
German BR5 Sniper squad
I don’t use my Allies in BR5 because they don’t have a fully automatic sniper rifle, and I don’t play BR 5 Japanese. If the Dev’s gave us an M2 Carbine with a scope (which I believe would be the M3), I’d remove the scope and turn my sniper squads into assaulter squads.

I’ve also thought about the issue with engineers. From a balance perspective, removing them from the upgrade tab could be one possible solution. And as you mentioned at the end, making players obtain the sniper squad later, after unlocking the engineer squad, also seems like a good approach.

This method only works for specific nations at certain BRs, and since it’s not a mandatory change, it doesn’t really mean much.

Sounds fun but I’m literally running German Sniper on BR5 to use StG 44 Scoped as a StG with ACOG, that’d definitely take them out of my current lineup, ouch.

it is the best bro no one can deny that

being more serious we can add bf1 flare gun that would mark tanks apc and enemies giving it a more useful role

The flare spotting system also seems like a good idea. However, since the battlefield is small and limited, adjusting the spotting range could also be a good way

Let’s revert the sniper squad to its original role: reconnaissance and providing fire support for infantry squads.

Make sniper AI aim better
They takes longer to lock exposed enemy but fire at top accuracy

Yeah, it doesn’t work for the Allies unless they add a scope to the M2 Carbine or the T-20.

Terrible idea, noone wants to be spawn killed by snipers. That would be insanely toxic gameplay.

All snipers need is access to the vitality perk, they are the only unit with 10 HP instead of 13.5 HP and it makes counter sniping them too easy - even with SMGs.

BF1 flare gun was OP. You shoot it annwrhere even the floor and a radius of enemies gets spotted through buildings… atleast 5 required you to actually shoot it in the sky while having an almost useless spotting mechanic.

and add their own unique structure too

This is a fundamental rework idea for the sniper squad. Rally point spawn-killing happens quite often, and honestly, getting spawn-killed by a sniper squad is actually better than getting wiped by assault rifles or machine guns.

Enlisted’s AI already has top-tier aim as it is… the only issue is their slow reaction time. And I don’t think this addresses the core problem with sniper squads

I can say I use sniper squads on occasion, And I’m usually top of the leaderboard when I play as them. People don’t use sniper squads correctly, they think just snipe a bunch of enemies, long distance and stay away from the objective, I typically sit 50 to 60 m Max from the objective constantly spamming Intel to my team so they know where the enemies are coming from while I’m shooting at those same enemies. That would be significantly harder to do without a scope at that distance I’m marking (100m+) while maintaining accuracy. If we can see where the enemy’s coming from before they arrive, we have a better chance of preparing for them. Snipers are just that a recon class and nobody uses them properly, I don’t even have a problem with my snipers taking tanks out, All it takes is an explosive pack. It all boils down to how you play the class. Not how ineffective the class is, The real question is how ineffective is the player base at using said class?

Everybody can argue that’s what binoculars are for, but it’s easier just to shoot an enemy. You can already see through a scoped rifle better than it would be wasting time that they could use to get away or out of your sight line when you’re using binoculars and you’re having to switch.
