So, Jets are in Enlisted. They’re here to stay, they aren’t going anywhere. However, it’s undeniable that they negatively affected BR 5, since they made all prop fighters of the same BR worthless, and they have created a net-increase in CAS bombs.
So how do we fix Jet fighters, without making purchased premiums worthless?
The answer: Jet Fighters have their bomb payloads removed, BUT get placed into a new class of planes: INTERCEPTORS.
What Is An Interceptor?
- An Interceptor class plan in Enlisted would be a plane that is arguably as strong as a fighter one BR above the one it is placed at, but without payloads. It is intended to be used as a direct counter to CAS, in addition to other options like infantry AA.
The Interceptor class, being a different class and squad in this suggestion than a Fighter, would not take up the fighter slot in your team. This means up to 3 planes could be present on a battlefield on each team at a time: a Fighter, an Attacker, and an Interceptor. However, despite the increase in vehicles, there should be a net decrease in anti-infantry HE, since Interceptors would only be capable of strafing with cannons against infantry. Interceptors could be reclassified or added for all BRs for all nations in the future as well, but they can be introduced strictly as a rebalancing of Jets.
Let’s look at how this change would affect the existing jets:
The change is obvious for all tech tree Jet fighters: without bombs, they are spawned to counter enemy prop fighters and attackers, maintain air superiority, and take out light ground targets such as APCs. Depending on the cannons (cough cough 30mm Type 5 cough cough), the planes could still have limited anti-tank capabilities as well.
There’s also a Jet that would REALLY benefit from this change: the Me 262 A-1/U4. It already doesn’t have bombs, but has the nose-mounted 50mm cannon, that specializes against tanks.
IN SUMMARY:
- Jets are reclassified as “Interceptor III” squad vehicles.
- Interceptor squads and vehicles become their own plane class. Teams are limited to 1 Interceptor plane, and do not take a Fighter or Attacker slot.
- Jets have their bombs removed. Interceptors are intended for countering CAS/holding air superiority.
- Prop fighters such as I-185 (M-82), AP-4C, Bf 109 K-4 and Ki 84 Ko become the top fighter options for their respective factions, but are still vulnerable against BR 5 Interceptors (Jets without bombs).
- The F-80A-5 and Me 262 A-1/U4 are still valuable purchases despite the loss of suspended ordnance, as they do not fill the Fighter slot, and can hold air superiority, as well as remove soft targets on the ground.
- The ceiling for BR 5 fighter performance is reduced significantly, meaning future BR 5 Fighter additions for current or new factions are less exclusive, and BR 5 Interceptors can be fast, but do not require bombs.
- Yes
- No
I hope you guys find this proposal interesting, and think it’s a worthy implementation! I think this change would make BR 5 for both infantry and aircraft a lot more dynamic. Please let me know what you think, and I will try to answer any questions regarding this idea!
