So, I started playing Enlisted after the exodus from Heroes and Generals slow death. At first I really did not like Enlisted. It was very confusing and did not seem as fun as HnG. Now, I realize Enlisted is the superior game. Enlisted could use a few of the QOL features of HnG like pre battle chat, whistling and being able to steal vehicles. I also miss the massive open maps of HnG and get annoyed by the zoning of Enlisted but understand it is to keep the battles quick paced. Enlisted also does a much better job at bug fixing and game issues. Driving a tank in HnG was miserable. You could get stuck on a small rock or get rolled over like the tank was a mylar balloon. All in all Enlisted is the superior game. HnG had its time but this game beats it.
H&G used to be my main FPS game.
I discovered Enlisted during the Berlin Beta. At this time I was playing both H&G and War thunder so Enlisted seemed to be a good idea… and I like the game ! Though back on the day the progression was really weird with the different bronze and silver orders, weapons were mostly randoms as a result (silver order were quite scarce). And In the end my freind weren’t big fan of the game.
Then, I came back to it from time to time. And then in parrallel H&G eventualy died. This was sad but at the same time the game was agonizing with very very few new content in its last years…
I came back to Enlisted with the Normandy paratrooper event. And I have played the game consistently since then.
H&G was super goofy and fun to play, but at the same time it was quite limited.
I liked playing Heroes and Generals.:
- Maps that made it possible to maneuver
- Fiercer battles than in Enlisted
- Mutual assistance between players (if you were running on foot and an ally was passing by you, then in 99% of cases he would stop and give you a ride)
- Global map
- The ability to customize weapons for yourself.
Honestly, I miss this game.
What I didn’t like:
- Prices for the repair of additional modules (it was very expensive)
- Prices for Equipment (the tank was powerful and very dangerous, but you had to use it wisely, because after losing 3 tanks, you went into negative territory) 3) Prices for grenades, playing since 2016, I have never used grenades
I played Heroes and Generals for years, I had about 2400 hours in it. I started playing at the start of its decline, in 2017 and was one of the most regular players, it was a love-hate relationship and I did take breaks but I always came back to H&G after a while for my FPS game fix.
I dropped Heroes and Generals in its final months, came back to it for a single match in its last days.
After Heroes and Generals I had absolutely no interest in ever playing a free to play game or competitive shooters, but I heard that Enlisted had Italians in it and was convinced to try it.
At first I really liked the game because it was a good mix of realism and action, I always thought that the ultimate WW2 shooter is like Red Orchestra 2 but with squads (so half the players arent sniping).
I came to the forum to get a better insight of the game development (as if lol)
and stayed only because of the amount of guns the game has and because devs take our suggestions.
Otherwise Enlisted has also became a love-hate relationship. (love the game, but I hate clans and stupid teammates as well as disappointing updates).
to be honest, Heroes and Generals maps had far better replayability than Enlisted maps, even if I kept using the same flanks, routes ect. Matches didnt feel the same (not in the way they feel copy pasted in Enlisted).
I played War mode for most of my time though, so maybe its player managed resources made things far more interesting.
The maps were awesome but annoying as F**K after all the trees and rocks got solid. I can’t tell you how many times my plane got taken out by pixelated leaf on a tree. But yes, some of those maps were an entire world unto themselves. You would have some crazy action, especially the airfield map. I use to actually be a top player. Or at least one of the top pilots and tankers. My steam profile has tons of pictures of me stealing every tank in the game from every faction. I would be like a spider monkey, steal the tank and then beat the other team with their own tank :).
You could do all kinds of fun stuff in that game. We would even swap planes. Enlisted does not have the same team play mentality of HnG. You fight with all your friends because of that awesome communication system. I do not know if join match would work for enlisted but that is another one. I played HnG way before the squad update.
Ahh yes the half baked Generals mode. The maps had unbalance so it could be used by both sides. I just liked the social element. We would go all knives as 2 (Think it was 8 of us?) squads and just wreck people so much so they would not come in the building. Good times.
I thought I remember the fights being a lot more intense but then I thought it was just remembering that wrong. Then I remembered how since you were playing with friends and everyone was super active it was that intense. I use to be an admin for one of the top HnG discords until the admin got butthurt that me and my gang of savages had shown him play on a different level. We did not just kill him we did it with style! That is what I kind of remember about Hng it had style to its combat. If you were super good you can get creative for the memes. Enlisted lacks that creative nature due to the lack of true social interactions. I blame that on canned responses. HnG were real dicks about their game model and making you pay for loses. It did keep the grenade spamming down. Wonder why they do not have H3 tank mines in Enlisted? Those things were a ton of fun to master.
I discovered heroes and generals when it was already dying and i didn’t have time to play 2 ww2 fps so i never tried it. My brother did play it a little
