Should we add bang rifles

CDN media
The key difference is how they use gas: the Bang system uses a moving muzzle cup that traps gas, pushes forward, and converts this motion to a rearward action via a complex linkage. In contrast, modern gas systems typically use a gas trap at the muzzle or a gas port on the barrel that directs high-pressure gas to a stationary piston, pushing it directly backward to operate the action without a complex seesaw mechanism. The Bang system was an early, complex, and ultimately unsuccessful design, while modern gas systems are simpler, more reliable, and common in many firearms today.

Bang system

  • Mechanism: Uses a sliding muzzle cup that is pushed forward by muzzle gas as the bullet exits. This forward motion is converted to a rearward force by a complex mechanical linkage, such as a seesaw or levers, to operate the bolt.
  • Complexity: Highly complex and mechanically cumbersome due to the linkage required to convert the gas’s forward force into rearward action.
  • Success: An early design that was not successful due to its mechanical complexity and susceptibility to gas fouling.
  • Examples: The Bang rifle and the Gewehr 41 are examples of this system.

Gas system (modern)

  • Mechanism: Uses a stationary gas trap at the muzzle or a gas port on the barrel. Gas pressure acts on a piston, pushing it directly backward to cycle the action.
  • Complexity: Simpler design because the gas pressure acts directly on the piston, eliminating the need for a complex linkage.
  • Success: A reliable and widely used system in many modern firearms.
  • Examples: Found in many piston-driven AR-15s and other gas-operated firearms.

You asked about the difference between Gas Trap System and ...

While no one adopted them i would love to see bang rifles in the game. They are similar but different than gas operated systems all modern guns use today. I only looked up a few but the Germans the Danish were just two countries to attempt this alternate self-loading technology. using the gas of the bullet to load another round thus making things like bolt action or level action or even pump action largely obsolete for military weapons. In fact ariel combat as we know it before missiles would have been impossible. if any one would like to add a bang system gun below please do.
