Please keep this discussion on topic guys. Just answer the questions, leave a comment at the end if you wish, but don’t sit and debate on this thread please. I’m trying to collect information for suggestion posts and really don’t want to have to dig through a bunch of extra chatter. Thank you in advance.
Standard MG nests:
How frequently do you use standard MG nests?
How frequently do you see other people using standard MG nests?
Would you use MG nests more frequently if they could angle down (lower) much further?
Would you use MG nests more if they had a windowed sandbag wall built around the front of them?
HMG nests:
How frequently do you use HMG nests?
How frequently do you see other people using HMG nests?
Would you use HMG nests more if they could angle down (lower) and up (higher) more?
Not sure. I don’t even know, how far they can depress currently, because I use them so rarely.
Possibly. One one hand, more cover. On the other hand, easier to spot.
From time to time. Maybe every 3rd or 4th game, in which I have an MG squad (I’m a 3 inf squad pleb).
Sometimes. More often in sweaty games.
Maybe.
The reasons, why I use HMGs more:
a) They are better. Obviously, more damage. But also more difficult to destroy. And the bulky hitbox of the HMG gives better protection to the user than just the sandbag wall.
b) I’m simply not used to building MGs. I played for well over a year, before I finally unlocked engineer II. That time of playing engis without MGs seems to have left its mark on me. I use engis all the time and rarely even think of the possibility of building an MG.
I haven’t seen any MG nest for a very long time nor I used one.
3&4: No
I sometimes see HMGs and I use them in every game.
Problem with MG nests is:
they are locked behind much more grind
they don’t do anything better than HMGs
Personally I’d give now MMG nests ability to be moved and make them avalabe for engineer I squad. This way they would be between LMGs and HMGs in terms of firepower/mobility ratio.
I don’t know if it would be enough to make them more popular but it won’t hurt.
On topic of sandbag cover.
From experience I know that often this cover doesn’t really help, quite the oposite. It makes you a bullet magnet as you are clearly visible and limits your vision.
How frequently do you see other people using standard MG nests?
It’s rare and almost nonexistent in some cases Everyone likes the HMG more than the regular one and no one wants to give away their position they would rather use HMG which is more effective
Would you use MG nests more frequently if they could angle down (lower) much further?
I use them wherever I can and if at all possible And if I can even set them up to begin with there’s not enough time to set up random machine gun nests around the objective
Would you use MG nests more if they had a windowed sandbag wall built around the front of them?
I’ll use anything I’m not picky and if there was cover that’s not bad and if I can make some cover that’ll be even better
HMG nests
How frequently do you use HMG nests?
wherever and as soon as possible
How frequently do you see other people using HMG nests?
Not that common unfortunately everyone would rather Charge into the objective instead of setting up kill zones
Would you use HMG nests more if they could angle down (lower) and up (higher) more?
I’m happy to use anything and if they can make them more reliable instead of what they are right now they’ll be even better.
Definitely. That’s why I prefer Japanese MG over HMG.
It can be placed in first floor (not ground floor) into windows and you can easily shoot everyone down there.
That’s basically only MG I do use tho. Since I really don’t like how easily they can be destroyed. One shot from BA and you need to repair it, so annoying.
Standard MG nests: never. I only unlocked engi II in normandy and never leveled it up as its a waste of time
HMG: Often for factions where i leveled machine gunner squad, as it’s easy to unlock and actually worth while.
This is not always a good thing and I could argue this is such case.
If you have a certain level of bullet deviation (not too big though) and big volume of fire, you can more easyly cover larger area (called beaten zone if I’m not mistaken).
Tldr: You can kill ppl even if you don’t aim at them.
Btw I’ve heared it was the case for german coax MG34. It was too acurate and because of this it wasn’t so great for suppression.
As for shorter overheat: HMGs have much larger cap so with proper trigger disipline you can easyly avoid overheating.
Why would I finantialy support a game I can’t even install and one that moves away from things that hook me up in the first place?
A waste of money even if we don’t concider ridiculous prices.
once or twice per day accross 7 matches. ( mostly depend the map )
very rare
not really. but it would improve them ( i think ). although, it would make them a bit unrealistic. as you would have the issue of normandy roof top mgs. where if they angle down, the gunner can kill you, but as the opposite end, you cannot see the gunner and retaliate. you only have a pixel to destroy the machinegun. and well… dispersion is a thing.
i’d say no to this. because it would just make you a big target and make mg nests harder to place inside houses and what not.
just as regular ones
everywhere. there’s at least someone somewhere building a HMG at least once in every matches
i don’t think they need any buff nor nertfs. those are alright.
