Serious Question: How often do you actually see mines being utilized in your games?

Yeah, I can relate to this. Plus it’s way quicker and reliable to just shoot the guy. Using mines is just uneffective trolling.
And since AP mines doesn’t even wipe whole squad, its kinda pointless to count on them as proper defense. The enemy just swaps soldier and continue to push.
Plus they’re really overpriced for what they really can do.

Just for the sake of keeping this post on topic, would you mind either starting another one for that conversation, or hold that thought till tomorrow, and I’ll start one up to cover it.

Trust me, I do want to hear what you have to say, but I’m really trying to keep this one focused.

Offense

  1. I don’t see them used very often, only when they are trying to take a point or random placement, otherwise not often
  2. I have never seen AT mines used on offense, everyone just uses packs or rockets
  3. I don’t see people use TNT as mines, but rather as a alternative to the packs.

Defense

  1. I see Ap mines more often on the defending team then offense in my experience, but they are still on the uncommon side.
  2. Like with offense I don’t see anyone using AT mines at all, I’ve tried using them but I don’t think they were all that useful, maybe it’s bad placement on my part, either way AT mines must be the rarest of the mines for people to use.
  3. TNT being used as mines only happens on the bomb missions (I can’t remember what they’re call), they place the TNT on the bomb so if offense tries to plant they activate the TNT. Other then that TNT is still mostly used on tanks as a alternative when they don’t have packs or rockets.

I do use them very often, the only thing that I dont see very often is AT mines, I kind of dont really know why, but meh, I dont care, Im happy with the use I give them

Outside of your PERSONAL usage of them, could you explain how often you are seeing OTHERS use them? Either getting killed by it, seeing it in the feed, etc.

I see AP mines often, I would say in about 4/10 matches, in the objective, always the objective, AT mines would be like 1/500 matches

I’m going out on a limb and guessing you only ever see TNT being used point blank against tanks?
Feel free to fill me in if I am incorrect.

Correct, only point blank, even I only use them like that, if you dont do it your soldier will just be randomly shot dead, and then the tnt charge would just stay there being absolutely useless, mines are just better at every scenario, even at point blank

AP mines were somewhat used when they worked ok. after bug it is really rarely used.
biggest problem with mines is their cost, so mostly only veterans can use them.

there are select few players who use AT mines cause they are difficult to get kill with. they are usually mining choke points and i have seen some players planting them before stationary tanks. overall unpopular mine.
and i played mostly campaigns where TNT wasnt initially available so later introduction of TNT hasnt seen almost any usage of them. everyone has explosion packs and tanks mostly camp in gray zone.

When im playin with a good enemy team its allways there, offense-defense doesnt matter at all. I ll never seen em otherwise. Antitank mines are not used that frequently. Tnt charges are a thing in stalingrad.

Rarely run into enemies using any kind of mine. I equip most of my troops with some kind of mine (Otherwise they get TNT), so I will plant at least 1 mine per match at some point. Some matches I plant them more often, and I’m sure there are matches were I forget I even have mines.

AP are obviously more useful. If I’m planting an AT mine honestly its probably because I’m dropping it as close to a tank as possible so I can just shoot the AT mine and kill the tank.

I’m fairly sure I’ve been stepping on fewer enemy mines, than enemies stepping on those of mine (pun intended).

I use to carry around AP mines in most campaigns, except Stalingrad because there TNT gets available in high numbers for free with new squads. And successfully destroying a tank (especially a KV-1) with TNT feels good.

I place AP mines on enemy rallies whenever I can, because if I manage to sneak into enemy pants, why not going balls deep.

Also, if I reach enemy HMG/AT/AA emplacements and kill the current user, I’ve started placing mines on those too, instead of destroying them right away.

I will often set a few AP mines in defense of radio stations in destruction matches, or in choke points near closed cap points.

This does NOT mean I spend all my time placing AP mines around. I just think they’re a tactical tool worth using to get some extra kills and drain a few enemy tickets.

I virtually never use AT mines tho.

I never successfully use TNT outside of tank busting, and when I do it’s by climbing on the tank, placing TNT on top of it and blowing it up as soon as reaching a safe distance.
Whenever I try using TNT as a defensive trap, I always end up getting killed before having the chance to blow it up.

  1. Rarely on offenses. Probably for obvious reasons.

  3. A bit though far less than nuke packs.

  4. A bit more often than 1.

Apart from bug, I doubt its because of stats. People just want to rush like a bunch of raged hogs.

Quite often - I’ll use them if I have them

Rarely - I give my AT squads AT mines and try to mine choke points on roads. Dunno that I’ve ever had a kill.
