Hello bajtársak and fellow forumdwellers,
The Lewis gun has been highly requested to be added to the Allied tech tree in the past two years, it’s a very iconic weapon that saw extensive use by Commonwealth forces in both world wars and would fit in BR3 perfectly, giving Britain its own LMG on the BR instead of having to rely on US BARs.
However, somehow our wise devs failed to grasp the difference between tech tree and event, adding this gun to the latter category even though they knew our expectations.
Compromising in this situation is surprisingly difficult despite the large number of variants this gun had.
- People expect the variant to be British
- People want to see the iconic barrel shroud as well.
The first expectation rules out all the Czech, Dutch and US variants (US variant is already a Soviet premium anyway).
The second expectation rules out all of the variants after the Mk.I, though most of those variants were never suitable for infantry use anyway.
For those that are wondering, the newly added Lewis gun .303 is a British Mk.I BSA produced Lewis gun chambered for .303 British, the most commonly used Lewis gun across the Empire.
Sadly it’s unlikely that devs would change the event reward now so lets add the second best thing possible to the Allied tech tree:
Lewis gun Model 1915
During WW1 the Birmingham Small Arms company could not keep up with the demand for Lewis guns so Britain contracted the American Savage Arms company in the US to produce Lewis guns for the British Empire.
The Savage Lewis is not too different from the BSA Lewis, but it does stand out a little with its unique markings and slightly darker wood finish.
To make the event Lewis gun a little more interesting, it could be given 600 rpm fire rate.
Lewis guns fire rate is estimated between 500-600 rpm so it’s historically accurate.
This would make the British model fire 600 rpm while the American Savage machine guns would fire at 500 rpm, setting the models apart.
and as friendly reminder, subfactions tree would be a great way to keep things like this interesting.
Subfaction tree
So as a quick run down, this would mean that if the Lewis gun was added to the British subtree than British squads could use it, but not US squads BUT US squads could still use the event Lewis gun thus it would keep some of its uniqueness.
Thank you for your time and attention!
