Roughly 12 hours of flying experience: Review

So I have spent roughly 12 hours flying so far, over the past 2 days.
I see great promise in this “beta” especially considering the sistership with War Thunder.

FM issues:

  • The planes feel like there is a hard instructor always on, when I toggle the instructor it gets more aggressive not less, I would like for it to be less. This becomes apparent in stall fighting.

  • Planes seem to get sucked into no energy extremely quickly even with the slightest turning. Then they hit a period at roughly 250 speed where they just have infinite energy to sustain them.

  • If you cut your engine going slower than 100 speed to hammerhead or dive the engine will no longer make thrust, this has happened multiple times in my p51, I hammer head my engine still sounds like I am making power but there is no thrust.

  1. I understand the FM is a work in progress, just letting you know what I see.

The following is not FM but mechanics or comfort.

  • When flying without a joystick, you are limited to a 10 degree movement, this causes some issues such as: when holding the C key to look around you get 2 seconds to look around, and this makes tactics such as circling a major pain.

  • The fog of war is too abrupt, I can see the battlefield clearly at 1.5 km but then at 1 km it becomes engulfed in fog till I get to 600m, I would like to see something where its more gradual.

  • The toggle engine power is non variable but goes by “steps” this creates a spamming of buttons which imo does not fit the feeling of flying.

  • when using a keyboard to control the aircraft, if you let go of the key, for instance S your plane will violently try to revert back to where your last mouse input was, personally I think it would be better if when letting go of the key your plane attempts to fly in the direction where the key was released instead of the last mouse input.

  • Inability to look directly behind you in a bubble cockpit, if this is due to “realism” I can understand the concept but it would be nice to have 360 degree vision inside the cockpit.

Things I absolutely Love

  • I love weapon systems are able to be added to diffent keys, for instance the splitting of cannons and machine guns.

  • There is no targeting reticle for CAS, (I wish there was no lead indicator for planes).

  • Flaps are lowered and raised as you see fit, not just “combat” and “Raised”

  • I believe I ran out of fuel in my P51 twice, but do not know if this is due to the no thrust bug or fuel loss, if it is fuel loss I love this concept! Makes a pilot consider his actions more carefully.
